So is the Strome and ADA contracts. Strome plainly stinks now and ADA is a defenseman who can't play defense.

Come on man! Strome and ADA are only 2 years. Krieder is 7. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Also half of our dead cap space comes back to us next year so Strome and ADA's contracts will be nothing, especially on their final year of that contract. They are moveable

There are deer everywhere. I think I saw that one in my backyard.

Ohio is flat and boring as all hell. The food is terrible. Columbus is just college kids and people that pretend they are still college kids. It’s awful. The people there are oblivious to why it’s bad and can’t understand why people don’t like it more. It sucks. The Midwest as a whole isn’t anything special but Michigan, Pittsburgh area PA and Cincinnati, which is basically Kentucky (You can count Louisville in there too if you want) are all better than Columbus and Cleveland in adjacent states.

Your funny..yeah go often to hunt big bucks pay 3k to sit in a tree for 12hrs dark to dark over the course of 5 days..food well lets just say I lose weight that week.

The Kreider contract will come to look like Staals before the end. I get it if your a contender but this team is a ways off.
No, it wont.

Kreider is built for modern NHL hockey, Staal was not.

Kreider has not had life altering injuries.

Kreider was not signed to a 6 year NMC by Glen Sather

Kreider is movable in 4 years if needed.

He will be fine and producing like he has. He's a slow starter and his centerplay has been average to say the least. I do not understand why they stopped shooting with him in front on the PP though

Trouba’s contract is worse than Kreider’s IMO

I don’t love Trouba’s deal either. It’s not really a one or the other. I do feel more confident in Trouba maintaining his play longer than CK though just based on age. The problem with Trouba isn’t term, it’s AAV. He’s a 6 million dollar man making 8 million. The problem is paying him 8 million doesn’t make him 8 million caliber.

Both CLB and WPG traded all the guys that wanted out from their respective clubs. In the situation that both teams were in, this was the most balanced trade.

Pretty interesting deal, essentially swapping the 2nd and 3rd overall picks, and a 3rd for Roslovic

Salary retention too.

Little bit of a convo change up here but...

That Kreider contract is going to be a thorn in our ass.

Hindsight is the key here. Since signing extension the Rangers won lottery resulting in immediate roster impact at his position and pandemic that destroyed universally expected cap increases over the next few years and beyond.

“In your opinion.” You may be right, but your opinion isn’t fact.

I think CK will be a 3rd liner in 3-4 years. He’ll be behind Panarin and Lafreniere. Obviously, no one foresaw a flat cap and winning the draft lottery, but here we are. I don’t think quality teams do well paying a 3rd liner that amount. You could very conceivably find yourself paying a lot for a 40 point winger.

I hated the signing when it happened.

The circumstances afterwards have only made it look that much worse.

I think that Columbus won on paper and lost in practice. Laine is now the main threat with no support in a very low scoring system. When your team has a line of Connor/Scheifele/Wheeler playing above you and a PP that can feature all of those guys plus Laine as the trigger, finding space and opportunities is easier than when you’re THE guy teams will now hone in on to shutdown. They also have abysmal center depth now.

Winnipeg is a higher scoring team and still has three excellent wingers in Connor/Ehlers and Wheeler so Dubois will play with talent, in a more opened up system and be able to split responsibility for being THE guy with Scheifele. Likely his production goes up. Winnipeg also has really nice center and overall forward depth (defense still shit). Moreover, his parents live in Winnipeg because his dad works there. It is likely that his father spoke to him about the city and whether he’d be willing to stay there, where his family is close, before Winnipeg tabled such a big offer. I won’t be surprised at all if Dubois puts up really nice numbers and re-signs.

Columbus now has a glaring hole at center and a guy I can’t see wanting to stay there long term, being as effective as he was in his previous situation or gelling with the coach. Winnipeg now has sacrificed winger strength to balance a more important position at center and has the greater likelihood of keeping their acquisition.

Columbus got more value but become worse. Winnipeg paid a high price but probably became better.

Yup, and don’t forget that Stastny will be able to play on the 3rd line. From a team building perspective Jets is a better team now.

Yep, I lived in Pittsburgh and really liked it. Was in Columbus twice and it's not even comparable. Shit city.

I was against it too but at the time there was a spot behind Panarin, with expected cap increase $6.5m would’ve been pretty manageable and only a limited trade restriction in the last three years - I certainly saw this as a defendable way forward.

It’s only 4 games in. Last night wasn’t his best game but other than that he had been really solid. He is just snakebitten. He also have become really valuable in the PK

I don’t think @Uninstaaled is referring to Kreider’s game so far - he’s well aware that Kreider is a notoriously slow starter. It’s more about the length of the whole contract and the quality depth the Rangers have on the wings that could soon push Kreider to 5-6 best option while having $6.5 tag.

All this tells me is that you have never been to Indiana ;)
I have not! I used to travel for work in the before times and my territory stopped in between Ohio and Indiana. As I said I am only basing it on states I have been to for extended time in the interest of fairness. I was supposed to go to South Bend in April but that obviously didn’t happen.
