How do we make this Bennett trade work? How much do we retain or who else can Calgary add to make the it work with the cap?

Can the Rangers really get away with keeping Tony at home the rest of the season? Where is the NHLPA on that?
Based on the amount of posturing from the Rangers this week, best guess is the cap hits exchanging hands in any deal will be equal (or very close to it).

As for keeping Tony at home all year, my guess is that it won't happen. A few weeks to try to find a deal is tolerable. If momentum dies and he's not moved, he'll either be reassigned to Hartford or loaned to another AHL team to prevent any sort of grievance being filed.

Tony should thanking his lucky stars he’s even getting paid after the Rangers told him to f*** off until they figure out what to do with him

Give me a break with that “can the Rangers continue to get away with this?”

Sorry have they suspended him? I'm not asking if it is right or wrong. I'm asking if the NHLPA would get involved at some point?

What youre asking is a fair question. But some here, because of how much they despise Tony, dont want to entertain a logical question. Instead they say he is lucky he is still getting paid when that is just nonsense. Why? Because he is opinionated and got into a fight with a teammate? He shouldnt get paid? No matter how you feel about him and his opinions, saying he is lucky he is getting paid is just silly.

i am guessing Bennett is holding things up . If Calgary goes in another direction Gorton likely has other options

I wouldn't be surprised if Calgary is having second thoughts about a Bennett for ADA trade, and I agree, Gorton probably has other teams he's working with on a trade.

Yes. They have to pay him. They don't have to play him.
This.
The PA is to protect its players contracts, and safety. If we simply sent him home, and paid him, they have no basis for argument. Look at what NYI is doing to Ho-Sang, so long as he's being paid the club has no obligation to play him or give him any sort of "chance"

Not saying they have to play him, but they have told him to stay home and he isn't suspended. I'm not sure how long that can continue was my question.

If they suspended him there is probably a process they don't want to go through is my guess.

For all interested let's hope a trade is made timely.

With Tony's agent Pat Brisson being one of the top player's agents in the business, I'd think they would be pushing hard for a trade or a loan to another AHL team before he'd accept just being paid to stay home.

This gets more interesting the longer it gets drawn out. Will be fascinating to watch what happens to the narrative around Tony if it starts to become apparent that other teams have been doing their due diligence on him and walking away saying “no thanks”.

You’d think that this would have been a real wake up call to the kid and that whoever gets him next stands to benefit greatly. But he might be so hard over on his views that he’s willing to throw it all away.

I still hold out hope that he makes some good decisions and gets his life back on track.

It's not Brisson's call. I'm sure all sides are "pushing hard for a trade", but it takes two sides to make a deal.

That doesn't do anything except 1) offer him to all teams for free and 2) once not taken they can assign him to the AHL.

Neither of those things happened. He is still on the team. They don't have to play him, but then he counts as part of the 23 man roster. They can put him on the TS... and he counts as a space there and likely would have to be allowed to practice and train at the team facilities.

I think you may want to read a bit of the CBA on the NHLPA website.

Ho-Sang was loaned to another club with his agreement.

DeAngelo is on the Taxi Squad and thus on the team.

At this point, it's semantics. The NHLPA has no recourse against the Rangers nor does his agent.

The Rangers aren't obligated to let him play, but he isn't practicing either. Brisson could argue that the situation is damaging to his client's future/trade value, and the NHLPA might back him up on that.

I have to imagine that Tony isn't just sitting at home watching Netflix. I'm sure he's working out every day and getting on the ice somewhere as often as he can, but it isn't the same as practicing with a team.

Imagine this drags out for another month, and then he gets traded to Calgary. He'll have to quarantine for 2 weeks, more than likely, and then how long before he is in game shape?

This isn't meant to defend ADA or suggest that he is in any way being treated unfairly. He made his own bed. But I could see Brisson and the NHLPA making a stink if it drags out too long. The Rangers might look for a place to loan ADA while they continue to work on a trade, but ultimately, I don't think Gorton will be pressured into making a move.

I've read the CBA and can refer you to a few clauses that suggest the NHLPA does have some recourse.

Whether the Commish (or depending on which route of recourse they take, an arbitrator) sides with them is uncertain.

But seriously, your take is wrong. The NHLPA wouldn't just sit by and allow a team to effectively suspend a player without going through the very clear process (with limits) as outlined in the CBA and Exhibit B Standard Club Rules document.

I don't think this matters at all, and to the point that it might (statement to the media, some tsn.ca article on it), no arbitrator is going to weigh on the second part.
