I would take Stepan back in a heartbeat. He easily would be our best defensive forward. As I’ve said previously. It would be worth looking into.
He goes against everything the team is “trying” to do style of play wise
And generally once the team gets rid of you, very rarely do they bring guys back for a second go around
Can’t see them having much interest but maybe I’m wrong
What style of play is that? Becoming more defensively responsible? Learning how to close out games in the 3rd period? Having the team defense improve is high on the priority list. Being better in faceoffs is high on the priority list.He goes against everything the team is “trying” to do style of play wise

Yep, always that obsession with former players. If we got rid of someone because we were moving on, how are they any use to us years later? Some fans love the names of ex-Rangers. They would bring back Callahan today, probably Zucs and and a handful Stepan. If you want a leader, get a coach while if you want a leader on ice they have to play well.
If this rhetoric of ADA being a racist neo-Nazi continues without proof continues, and ADA cannot find a team after he is released, there is a chance that he will have enough for a collusion lawsuit against the NHL akin to the one that Kaepernick brought against the NFL. It's probably something that's already being discussed by his agent.
It would be quite the case of irony.
Is NY home for his family ?
Which happens first: Rangers trading Tony DeAngelo or the Knicks reacquiring Derrick Rose?
How many years until the "hey let's bring ADA back", when he gets dumped by his next two teams?
I mean I guess we could play dumb and ignore the context of the situation of when Stepan was traded vs now and why we would consider bringing him back today...and then try and parlay that into it meaning we will of course want DeAngelo back in a few years. I guess that makes sense. How many years until the "hey let's bring ADA back", when he gets dumped by his next two teams?
I get it, I’m just not interested. And if they acquire him, is he gonna play 4C when Chytil comes back in a few weeks? Or they moving Chytil to the wing which dosen’t help him develop into a center? What style of play is that? Becoming more defensively responsible? Learning how to close out games in the 3rd period? This team is plenty fast. Sacrificing some of that to improve in other areas is part of building a team.
And before I read the nonsense about nostalgia...this is the guy who is currently available. He has an expiring contract. Youre not locked into anything. He isnt going to cost an arm and a leg to help in areas of the game that we are lacking because we are a young team. It is one damn player. We arent advocating being the Leafs and starting Thornton, Spezza, and Simmonds....
Hockey is a dirty sport. Hockey is a violent sport. Hockey is a chippy sport. I don’t know where this obsession with class came from, but hockey is a sport that is full of boarding, elbowing, slashing, spearing, slew footing, late hits, charging, high hits, fights, chirps and trash talk. It used to be a sport full of guys full on swinging sticks at each other’s heads.
If there’s any perception of class it’s because of handshake lines and the fact that guys sometimes do answer the bell for their actions or that they fight but then they clap one another on the shoulder and say good tilt. It’s “classy” because it’s a game with lots of old traditions and a “code of honor”. It’s not f***ing cricket. It’s a dirty, violent, physical, sneaky game. There are classy players in it, and even many of those classy players are still sneaky dirty sometimes. I don’t know where this pinky up “classy” notion is coming from. It’s a sport where a guy takes a high stick, spits a bloody tooth on the ice, skates down the ice, finds the guy who clipped him and buries him into the corner. It’s a sport where a guy catches your teammate from behind and you go rip his gloves off and try to pound his face in. It’s a sport where players have been licking their chops seeing a guy come down the center lane with their head down since they were 14 because he’s gonna get his clock cleaned. That’s hockey.
This team needs to re-evaluate Brett Howden. I am not like most people where I ridicule him like crazy but they certainly can do better. He doesn't handle the puck well, fumbles most chances, isn't fast, weak on the boards, etc. How is Lafreniere going to do anything with him? Centers drive play, and to be asking a 19 year old who hasn't played competitively since last March (aside from these ten games) to drive a line himself is a joke. He is going to probably put up a poor statline this year but whatever. They need a C badly.

Would be nice to know but haven’t been able to find anything.did we ever confirm just wtf actually happened to Chytil? Please no wrist
But the thing is, good teams can move players up and down the lineup in a pinch, that' s depth. Howden is not a 3C, and if Chytil is going to be out weeks or any other player in the top six down the middle, you're in trouble. That line will not be putting points up. I remember when Stepan had his jaw broken during the cup run, the NYR had Dom Moore move up at times. He was solid. He forechecked well, was defensively responsible, had speed, puck skills, etc. Does Howden have much of any of that?Howden is still growing into his style of play, he's been a lot better since the bubble, i think thats part of the reason rooney and blackwell were brought in, if Howden doesnt work there they have options. I really dont mind how hes been playing, i think people focus on him too much and pick apart things he does that all players do, no player is perfect but hes under a microscope here and in reality if Chytil is in the lineup hes on the 4th line.
