I dont know how close to a trade we ever got, or if a specific exchange is in the works now. I think the thread wishcasted itself into expecting something yesterday that may or may not happen at all.

Dreger said Thursday night that the "trade could happen in the next 24-48 hours." It's not like it was baseless wishcasting by fans. We're speculating off of pretty legit reports. Geez.

Routinely stands up for his teammates and takes on bigger players with pretty good results. Runs around with a motor like DiGiuseppe but has a lot more skill.




The talent is definitely there. And he plays with an edge and motor that no one on our team has outside of Lemieux/DiGiuseppe who don’t have Bennett’s skill. Bennett may not put up big points but he can be out for 15 minutes a night and not be a liability or drag a line down. May not pick up a point but opens space and keeps possession alive for guys like Bread to do their thing.

I can't think of a more inconsequential skill in the 2021 NHL than fighting.

What about Rasmussen on the Wings if we are talking taking a guy thats lost value ?

He's a stiff, was known to be the biggest bust candidate in the top 15, wings took him anyway because he's 6'6", is still a stiff. Can still be a second line yada yada, can be a bottom 6 grinder if yada yada, I don't think they want another Gauthier type. I think they desperately want literally any center.

Who said anything about fighting being an important skill? Standing up for your teammates is a good quality though, and it’s not as if these boards ever complain about not having guys who show a backbone and stand up for their teammates, right? It’s also not as if there weren’t 5 pretty sweet goals and a bunch of great hits in those videos.

I know that Gorts and co are focused on getting to a resolution of the ADA situation and getting some kind of trade done on that front. I would personally like to acquire Bennett if he has requested out of Calgary regardless of the ADA situation. I don’t know if Gorts is willing to divert energy into negotiating a separate deal right now while he handles the ADA stuff, but I’ve always liked Bennett as an energy grinder with some upside and I’d be happy to do something like Gauthier and a pick to get him in a separate deal and figure out the ADA situation elsewhere.

Its still a big part of keeping people honest out there. The role has changed from goon to hockey player who can fight but it still sends a message to the team that you have each other's backs. I can't get over that Ottawa let mtl beat up stutzle all game today right to th final 3 seconds, it still has a part and it sends a bad message that if you are willing to let guys walk all over you they'll continue to do it. Id hope we would react better if Lafreniere or Kakko get the same treatment and if not then we better get some players who will.
