Maybe a swap of Valimaki and Hajek?

instead of the off-setting draft picks? Would be a bad look on Gortons part since he allegedly was clamoring for Hajek in the MacT deal, which cost us Miller.

edit- but Edge said to keep it 'simple'.

Picks and/or retained salary may be the hold up
 
What exactly happened with Raty? was he just hype? wasn't he a top3 talent?

DeAngelo is done with the Rangers and there is no way I would let him become an issue with our team in Hartford. If they can find another AHL team to take him on for a while fine but it might not be as easy as people think. He's a player who might or might not help, might or might not be around for a length of time and some teams might just want to steer clear of him anyway. If we can't move him I'd be buying him out for 1/3rd of his salary in the offseason.

On Bennett I like him a lot as a player but we should keep in mind he's had something of an underwhelming career. He has been good in playoffs though. He is tough and can really hit but he's not a big hit accumulator. For his size he fights really well but we're talking 2, 3, 4 times a year. He's also usually a minus player and has not always been a mainstay on Calgary's penalty kill. He would be a compliment to someone like Lemieux but I think in the long run Brendan will give you a little more real action. That said I think he'd easily fit onto one of our bottom lines.

If the deals being offered are someone like Connolly or Bennett for ADA, you negotiate to the best of your ability and take the best offer. This is a scenario where it’s better to get $.50 on the $1.00 than $0.

Im hopeful that the depth piece Gorton can secure supplies a different element than the team already has. They seem to have quite a few guys who thrive when given a bit of space but not many guys who willingly engage to pry pucks loose and make opponents lives miserable on a nightly basis. Lemieux is one. You can tell his opponents dislike playing against him.

For the guys who know other teams prospects, are there any Lemieux’s out there who are still developing? Someone a team may include as a ‘throw-in’?

Absolutely. Team has enough skill they need more hard hat guys to open up space for some of the more perimeter guys. Team needs to be tougher to play against aka more North South players.
 
I dont know how close to a trade we ever got, or if a specific exchange is in the works now. I think the thread wishcasted itself into expecting something yesterday that may or may not happen at all.
