Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part LXXIV

With the whole team playing like ass game 1, and Tony not being the worst of the culprits, benching him was an attempt to send an early message to Tony that he is more needed on the ice and for him to better control his emotions going forward.

Can't bench everyong and TDA was the guy that stood out with the more bone headed actions.

That said, unless its a fair trade, moving him now would be the DUMBEST thing this team could do

I do not see the Rangers trading BOTH Chytil and Buch in a deal for PLD. I can see it being either Strome or DeAngelo as the second piece to Chytil. And I certainly do not see CBJ wanting Strome.

PLD will get traded. They have time to wait for a strong offer but it certainly doesn't seem like a situation where PLD is going to change his mind about staying in Columbus. So the question becomes whether or not any suitors will feel like they need to hurry up and get PLD in the mix before the season slips away. So maybe if Strome continues to be a mess, the Rangers feel like they have to upgrade there sooner rather than later and are willing to make a better offer.

I forget who it was on SiriusXM on Friday, might have been one of the TFP guys, but they made some valid points that Laine or PLD being traded would likely have to happen in the next 3-4 weeks due to the COVID quarantine rules. It would be tough for a team to endure those quarantine rules later in the season when they are making a trade to potentially push for a playoff spot. Especially if that team is trading some players off their roster to acquire PLD or Laine. So if it doesnt happen relatively soon, it would likely be after the season. They also said they cannot see Canadian teams trading with each other because they are all in one division fighting for 4 spots. South of the border you have 3 American Divisions to trade between.

They also noted that of course quarantine rules/length could change in the coming months

Complain about Quinn all you want (some is definitely deserved), but the legendary coaches (Bowman, Arbour, etc) would do the same thing here.

Yup this is thin line between the two or two sides of the same coin. Silver medal tossing arguments come to mind. If you don’t channel you passion the right way it will turn into a detriment.
 
Claim Spezza. Flip Strome for a pick. Promote Chytil to 2C, play Spezza at 3C.

3.8 million net cap space.
