So... missed the game as my buddy from NY (friend of Evgeni Kuznetzov, btw, from Russia) came down to TX for a visit so I had to show him a good ol’ honky tonk... but I’m assuming Georgiev is now the starter and we can get a 3rd for Shesterkin?

In all seriousness, I’d said I had a feeling we’d bounce back. Glad to see the important names on the scoresheet and the apocalypse cancelled... until next loss.

I think the fact he has a history of this, has been scratched and benched before, and it still hasn't changed is proof enough that it's not going to change no matter what the coaching staff does. This is who he is and what his personality is. Either you accept it or you don't. If you don't then you trade him or get a new coach who does. Scratching him to try and change behavior isn't going to change behavior. It just makes the team worse for the games he isn't playing.
I agree, he is what he is. But I do see some value in benching him, for the sake of the young guys on the team. In a vacuum I think it’s an overreaction but in this case, with such a young team, I’m cool with it. Assuming he’s back next game.

@offdacrossbar my first bullet point isn't to call him a "sociopath" but rather to get at that Quinn has been effective with DeAngelo...exactly to your point last year appeared to be the turn of a page.

I defer to trusting the coach who has been effective in wrangling the talent of DeAngelo into great on ice performance with what the right buttons to push are. Have you considered the fact that Quinn could actually be genuinely trying to help DeAngelo with the move? That is how I am choosing to view it.
Sanest thing I've read in 7 pages.

So pretty confident Fox can play PP1 and Lundkvist should be around next year so what LD available for TDA eventually ? Don’t say Yandle!

Rangers trade DeAngelo. Lundkvist slots into the 3rd pair RD. Feel like this is the ultimate path.

DeAngelo, Chytil for Dubois seems like the base for the package. Rangers probably add a 2nd round pick and a B prospect. I would like to get someone else back from them. Another poster mentioned Jenner, which we may be able to fit the salary depending on when the trade is made. And yes I understand that 2nd might have to become a 1st.

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Panarin-Dubois-Lafreniere
Strome-Jenner-Kakko
Lemmy-Howden-Gauthier

Lindgren-Trouba
Johnson-Fox
Miller-Smith
Lundkvist

Ideally, depending on how the season goes, would love to upgrade Howden. Stepan is a guy I would consider. Not Howden for Stepan, but separate deals. Maybe Howden is included in Dubois deal. Rangers sign Boyle to stopgap at 4C and then could always look at Stepan later.

What would you guys think of these lines for next game

Kreider - Zibanejad - Buchnevich
Panarin - Howden - Lafreniere
PDG - Chytil - Kakko
Lemieux - Strome - Gauthier

Lindgren - Trouba
Miller - Fox
Smith - DeAngelo
Makes sense unfortunately I think Strome is beyond useless without Panarin. Like a negative useless. I just don’t see any other option besides him being attached at the hip to Panarin

I won't make excuses for Strome last night because every pass he made was in someones feet but he isn't nearly as bad as most on here think he is and on the flip side he is inflating his points by playing with a star player, same could be said of Buch and Kreider though or any player that plays with a star player, ofcourse that doesnt feed the narrative.

Dont lump Kreider and Buch into your argument. While Buch is not some world beater defensively, he has improved and both he and Kreider are better players away from the puck. They have a positive impact on the game from shift to shift.

What Strome did last night was no outlier. This wasn’t some surprise. And passes werent just in his teammates feet, in fact many didn’t even get to his teammates. Straight up right to the other team, or rather into their feet/legs for a turnover. He is really just a terrible hockey player who has had all of his piss poor overall play masked by playing on Panarin’s line that has provided more GF than GA. The guy needs to get off the PP1 and quite frankly this team. Counting down the days.

Best that we can hope for is making a trade for a 2C so Strome can slot down to the 3rd line

Speaking of point shots, can someone put a bucket of pucks in front of trouba and see if he can find a way to hit the net, he has a bomb but it never hits the net.

Give it some time so these guys have some burn and can play the game like they should. Trouba has a howitzer.

He's not a terrible hockey player, thats silly talk.

This is just as much as your opinion as it is mine. The only difference is I have a strong feeling more Rangers fans would lean my way because the play on the ice matters.

Strome sucks. He is a 3rd line player in this league. He IS terrible defensively. He takes lazy penalties. Makes poor decisions constantly, with last night being a prime example. Turnover after turnover. Again, last night was no outlier.

But sure, go die on the Ryan Strome hill I guess.

gonna be honest, Chytil keeps performing like he did last night, Im not sure I want him in a dubois trade, nor that we need dubois. Also I shit on howden for almost two straight years, he's looked good in two straight games, looks like he got a little stronger and faster, and looks much more like an actual nhl player and maybe even 3c ceiling. If i can shit on him, I can admit when he looks better.

Friedman (who I'd consider an insider) reports that a PLD trade is not imminent.
Elliotte Friedman reports the Montreal Canadiens were among several teams to make serious pitches for Columbus Blue Jackets center Pierre-Luc Dubois before the regular season began. Once the puck dropped, however, the Jackets have decided to wait and see how their season unfolds before making any decision on Dubois’ trade request.

I found it interesting that when asked about what it was like playing with Panarin and Strome he talked about creativity ( paraphrasing here) regarding Breadman and intelligence regarding Strome.

I have zero hate for Strome and do not think he is a terrible player but I did smirk at the "intelligent player part.

Agree though. He may be best suited on the third line here. Hoping Chytil gets a real look there on the 2nd line later this season if Ryan struggles.

That said. How good Dubois would look real good in a Ranger jersey. Salary has to go back and if its not Tony then it has to be Strome. I'm sure the Jackets want Kaapo, but have a feeling that If there is a deal there, Buchy may be the one to go.

I can agree Howden has looked better. His skating looks better. So far* he has been better on faceoffs, sitting at 54.2%. I do not think he looks any bit stronger. His ceiling is still a 3rd line-4th line tweener to me. And that is if he continues to build on his improvement, which is still not significant to me. I would still like to upgrade him.
