Kid hasn’t played a sniff in this third period.

they gotta make a move. This never works out holding on to the guy. Once it’s done it’s done. Cut your losses get the best offer on the table by the end of the night

That'd actually be a good way to get a reallllly low value return.

Remember the Drouin situation where he basically refused to be demoted? They waited that one out, let him play himself back to some level of respectability with the NHL team and then made a good trade. We did that to a much lesser extent with Lias.

Not necessarily. PLD and Mika are both due for new contracts in 2 years, right? It's possible we couldn't afford both (depending on their respective asks, and whether PLD has eyes on Montreal).

were not trying to replace a 27 year old superstar center with a very good 22 year old center. Mika isn’t going anywhere. There are many other guys that will go first before a star center.

That clip is...not good. I don't think "character" is the be all end all and it takes many different shapes and forms...but there have to be some minimum expectations.

PLD has been known as a competitor since before he was drafted and shown it plenty at the NHL level. In my OPINION, there’s more to it than he’s just dogging it because he wants out. No way of knowing, but Torts may be singling him out and trying to embarrass him in the room, saying things every practice and meeting like “some of us actually want to be here” and “unlike some of the selfish people in the room” and basically making the situation worse. No way to know, but prior to this, PLD’s work ethic has always been top notch. It seems like the situation is definitely nearing its boiling point.

Gonna be a fun presser. Especially if they lose. I pity the reporter whose job is to ask about it...

Totally agree man! Is anyone worried that if he ever didn't get what he wanted on broadway we would see the same crap?

It’s obviously a thought, but I really think he and Torts have more going on behind the scenes and it’s just boiled over. I don’t think it’s just because he wants out so he decided not to try. Probably more like a direct f*** you to Torts.

Frankly if you’re going to trade for Dubois you might as well send Chytil back the other way cause he’ll be buried for years behind Mika and Dubois

for sure ... I was thinking TDA but it’s true CLB has 3 D to protect in expansion

I would do Chytil , Kravtsov , Strome for Dubois

I was talking about in two years (a lot of folks have been wondering whether Mika gets an extension or not). My point is that, if we lose one or both of Mika/PLD in the next few years--to salary cap issues or Montreal longing--it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep Chytil around if we can, because outside of those three....we got nothing coming through the pipeline that looks like a potential top-6 center). My comment was in response to the idea that we "might as well" include Chytil because PLD would block him from the top 6.

Can't make conclusions, but just the fact he's pulling this and the question exists is not a good thing for any player. I mean clearly he's pouting and done with the jackets. He is finished. He should be healthy scratched until traded. He's a net negative on the ice for that organization right now. This is not a Matt dushane situation at this point...

You may very well be right, but even in that case the best move would be to double down and kick ass with your play, take it out on the ice. Rather than go with the "controller disconnected" look in the hopes that the act of doing so may get you what you want.

This is like what Jeff Carter did (somehow forgot that one...damn Jackets fans have dealt w some shit) except PLD doesn't have an excuse (like his GM trading him before a clause kicked in when they had a handshake deal).

That’s definitely true, but it’s also one isolated clip and he only received 3:55 of ice time tonight, so who knows if he was pouting to start the game because Torts just thrashed him in the room right before puck drop and would have gotten his head back in it by the 10 minute mark or if he just flat out quit and is being a baby.

Definitely agree with the fact that it's one isolated clip and we don't know the whole story. Don't want to minimize that.

This is why the prospect of waiting to deal a player who wants out is so dangerous. If the parties involved respond poorly, things go sideways in a hurry and what was once an "agreeable" parting of ways turns into a knife fight where everyone gets bloodied on their way out the door.

The Avs got lucky with Duchene. The Lightning had the advantage of being able to send Drouin to Syracuse to give people breathing room. This is going to fester in Columbus if it's not dealt with quickly.

Yup.

If PLD thinks this playing like this is going to force Jarmos hand, it won't. Its just going to keep him in Columbus even longer.

His quickest path out of Ohio is to crush it so hard that teams are basically falling over themselves with @Savant level trade packages.

I don’t think Kakko would even be on the table. Skeptical the BJs could get a prospect/youngin’ with that much potential. But maybe they could get a very good NHLer.

I have no idea what the Jackets are looking for though. They’re kind of in a weird spot. This is already Tort’s 6th season there. They have Werenski and Jones but not much else—including their prospect pool. Trying to compete now with a below-average roster.

Remember, they basically went all-in at the 2019 TDL, and traded away tons of draft picks.

No one should have a problem with Kakko for PLD

no one should have a problem with Chytil + for PLD.

We are not trading Kaapo Kakko during is 2nd year after being drafted 2OA.

How about we get a competent coach in here first before determining Kakko is some “mystery box”. That would be nice.

And while Gauthier needs to work on his defensive game, the kid has been effective in the offensive zone almost every shift out there. He doesn’t shy away from physical play, drives the net, and has a heckuva shot that came close to garnering two goals for him already.

I just dont get it. Coach the kids. Stop panicking and demoting/scratching them, or at least the ones who have shown promise in some areas of the ice but need improvement in the others.

TDA, Strome, Kravtsov, 2nd for PLD. Thats my starting point. The Rangers can add in prospects to beat any offer. They can up the 2nd to a 1st, although with the way the first 3 games have gone I would be nervous to give up the 2021 1st. Make it lottery protected.

The Rangers have the pieces to get it done at a fair price while beating other offers.

And CBJ lose in OT. Anyone have the ability to tune in for the post game? I bet Torts doesn’t take questions.

good catch here with the waiver protections but who’s the third? Gavrikov? Maybe? But that wouldn’t stop me from taking DeAngelo if I wanted him. I think Columbus would be complete morons not adding him to their defense. They need a guy like him desperately

Well they could go 4/4 with protection. What forwards are they protecting? Foligno is UFA, ELCs are exempt. Domi, Atkinson, Bjorkstrand, Texier.

People talk about Kakko being drafted 2nd like PLD wasn’t drafted 3rd.
