May I reiterate, David Quinn is an idiot.

As you know, I am not a fan of players switching positions, BUT when it comes to a Kreider who is left handed moving to the right side, at least I can see where that would be experimented with.

And I agree on Rooney. Excellent penalty killer and not a bad person to have on the 4th line. I like Gauthier and but really need to see some more from him.

This will also enable for Panarin and Buchnevich to be on a line, which both have expressed interest in. AND, something that I really want to see, Lemieux to be back on LW with the Chytil & Kakko duo.

for me, its more about keeping lafreniere on his natural side...if one of them has to switch let it be kreider who isn't in the process of learning to adjust to the nhl game.

Agree to disagree I guess, we’re not coming at this from the same basic set of facts. Giving up 50 shots, being down 20 shots net, is not “looking a lot better” than the other team. That’s actually a very poor performance.

Kakko and Chytil are going to be on PP2 literally tomorrow it looks like. They’re not playing instead of Strome on the second line because their line looks very good and that’d leave Laf with PDG and Strome, which is god awful and people would be losing it over.

giving up 50 shots!? Please tell me how many of those were actually good scoring chances? Most of those shots were from the outside, and were easy saves. They did look better. Again they blocked shots, made the most of their scoring opportunities, and Lindy played the players that had the most impact on the game. Shots on goal is nothing more than shots on goal. You can have 100 shots on goal but if they are bad angle shots, long shots, weak shots it means nothing. You need higher percentage shots and we did not have that, they did.

Anyway, im not talking about 1 game. Im talking about Quinns full tenure here. He is not a good coach or the right coach. His accountability on his players is bad, his management of the roster is bad, his so called scheme is there is even one there is horrendous, and he has done nothing to coach up our young players like chytl, kakko, ect.

Meanwhile we have to watch Hughes get tons of opportunity and chances to succeed and actually do it. While we get to watch Laf get 3 min of ice time in the 3rd. Kakko and chytl get demoted in game.

He is like an idiot football coach who tries to outsmart everyone, like sean payton who wants to put taysom hill in instead of just running the ball with kamara or pete carroll NOT running the damn ball with Lynch instead of throwing it.

Quinn sucks and needs to go

I gotta ask. Did Quinn beat you up, steal your lunch money, kick the dog on his way to burning down your house?

I dont care if we look bad. Im not expecting to be in the playoffs. I expect the YOUNG players to play get get chances and get better.
YOU are not expecting the playoffs. Gorton and JD very much are expecting this team to compete for the playoffs. As such, dreams of rookies simply being handed time is nothing but a pipe dream. As it would be on any other team with playoff aspirations.

Your YOUNG players did get better. Look at Fox, DeAngelo, Buchnevich, Lindgren. That Kakko struggled as an 18 year old who had to move across continents is NOT a shock. This year, he has looked better. Lafreniere had looked like he belongs. Really sounds like you are tilting at windmills here.

I usually roll my eyes when people lambast coaches for the failures of individual players, but Quinn's personnel decisions have been absolutely outrageous since the start of the season. There are too many offenses to list without giving me a migraine.

It's impressive and bewildering that Jack Johnson is actually every bit as terrible as his reputation suggests. I don't know what Brendan Smith has to do to stay in the lineup. He was physical, sound defensively, made good decisions in his own end, and put an important assist on the board. Kakko looks like he has taken a step forward this offseason, but he isn't allowed to build on it or gain any momentum. Our star prospect was put on his off wing. Our SIXTY POINT DEFENSEMAN was benched not for a period, but for TWO GAMES in a row for the kind of selfish penalty we saw several times from Strome last season. Gauthier did everything but put up points, and he's the only one in our bottom six that assertively carried the puck towards the net, besides maybe Chytil. Buchnevich looks like a f***ing monster right now and he isn't on our first PP unit.

Am I forgetting something? For the love of all that is holy, I want to root for Quinn but he has completely lost me.

What atrocity is he committing? Not handing over top line spots to prospects on who you have place completely unrealistic expectations on?

Read the comment right after mine. I couldnt have said it better myself. I dont expect them to be on top lines. I expect Quinn to teach, to implement a system, to have accountability for all his players, to play the players that are playing well.

4 caps out for 4 games of course they come back right before they play us but now would be a good time to start playing some consistent hockey and put up some points. Also Flyers gonna be missing some big players.
Every game so much bigger because of shortened season and divisional only games.
I hope we can get some lines to gel and not switch things up every 5 min

When did you see Strome mouth off to the ref after a penalty last year? And then slam the door on his way into the box?

Johnson is pretty much a product of Martin. Martin, universally hailed as a hero here, was brought in to build a system. He has familiarity with Johnson. Johnson knows his system. Martin recommended Johnson to Quinn, Gorton & JD. They agreed. Quinn is giving his assistant head coach's choice a bit of a leash. The leash is not infinite in size. If he continues to play poorly, he will be scratched. But that is hardly a move that will come after 3 games.

Kakko has looked better with Chytil. And correctly being looked at to see if both of them can build on it. Where else is he being held back?

I never wanted Lafreniere to be moved to RW. But considering how many 'round here were touting him at center and how many even now are talking about how easy it is to switch from one side to the other, I am a bit surprised that this is being met with such vehemence. Not my choice, but there were plenty here that were clamoring for it.

DeAngelo deserved exactly what he got. And has only himself to blame for it.

His players have accountability. The team looked great in the offensive zone. The PP looks good again. The PK has looked much better than it has in the past. Martin is the one upon whom the task of building a defensive system falls on. Only problem is that he gets to do it after exactly two weeks of camp and no preaseason games. And with the youngest team in the league. Color me surprised that there are growing pains.

If you are not expecting them to be on the top lines, then how are you possibly surprised at their ice time?

I wonder if Claude Julien (a much more accomplished coach than Quinn) will scratch Kotkaniemi after mouthing off at the refs and taking a selfish penalty that cost his team a goal when the game was tied? Doubt it since he Returned that same game.

I thought Rooney was among the better forwards in the 1st game. Maybe they want to see Gauthier make more of his ice time. If you ignore the lack of fighting, Lemeuix had a high impact game and really put himself ahead of some plays, a couple of blocked shots, created a good scoring chance, drew a couple of penalties. One guy was making the most of his opportunity with the ice time that he got. This is what added depth does. Also think Rooney can help on draws if needed.

Is anyone really arguing they should be getting 20 minute top line spots? I feel like most just want the players to get a fair shake to prove themselves with more than 10 minutes of ice time, in which the slightest mistake during that time has them riding the bench.

We can look at the stats instead of trying to rely on our memories.

New Jersey Devils @ New York Rangers, 2021-01-19

They had 18 high danger chances compared to 8 for the devils, and most of them were from the circles and directly in front of the net.

Hughes can get big minutes because he has nobody in front of him. Zajac scored 25 points last year and he’s the only other center of any note on that team. Kakko and Laf have Panarin, Buch, Kreider and the other of the two of them to share top ice time with. It’s just not the same situation at all.

I know better than to celebrate these lines after 1 practice. The DQ line blender is going to come out half way through the first period

So what?
