He's not out.
Whats the obsession with this player other than his all world name?
I'd go
Kreider-ZBad-Buch
Panarin-Strome- take your pick between Lemieux or Gauthier
Laf-Chytil-Kakko, kid line where one uses their mistakes as learning experiences.
PLD-Howden- whoever you did not pick between Lemieux or Gauthier
While I don't see Lemieux or Gauthier being a prototypical top 6, who knows, maybe the add a dimension to the line that Panarin will likely have to carry anyway, and maybe it gets Strome off his stink.
BI is probably untouchable.Any chance we call LA asking for Boko Imama with Ziba out?
Its sickening that he and Lafreniere are not getting force fed minutes on PP2. Chytil for that matter too. Heck, lets throw Gauthier into the conversation. It is mind boggling how Lemieux and Howden can be force fed minutes but the buck stops there. Why cant the same be done for the others?I just went through last season and tracked his PP TOI month by month.
Kakko's most productive month was November (8 pts in 13 games.) This was the month where he got the most PP time (almost 42 minutes.)
It's almost as if you put him in a position where he can be productive, he will be productive. Crazy concept, I know.
This doesn't mean throw him on PP1 in place of Panarin or even put him on PP1 at all, but he should be getting more than the 1:10 he's seen on average so far where most of that time is spent trying to get the puck into the OZ after the first unit burns 1:30 or more or being taken off of the PP all together. I don't care how good PP1 was last year, if they're eating 1:30 or more before going off for a change guess what? They haven't been as good this year.
I think the ideas for pp2 was to try a set up around Trouba taking tons of point shots. Howden and Lemieux make sense for that since they’re fairly effective at digging out pucks and sending them back to Trouba. Troubas shot isn’t accurate enough to build a whole PP setup around it tough. Its sickening that he and Lafreniere are not getting force fed minutes on PP2. Chytil for that matter too. Heck, lets throw Gauthier into the conversation. It is mind boggling how Lemieux and Howden can be force fed minutes but the buck stops there. Why cant the same be done for the others?
I like DQ’s personality, he seems like a good guy. He is level headed and carries himself the right way. But his personnel decisions are awful and they are going to be his downfall.
Hayes scored 81 points in 158 games averaging 13:21 TOI. Dominic Moore was getting more ice-time than him when he was a rookie.
Miller scored 43 points in one season averaging 15:02 TOI.
Stop acting like it’s impossible to score from the 3rd line.
Hayes was also 23 years oldHayes centered Hagelin and Martin St. Louis basically every game that year, on a top to bottom elite team. The whole context of their rookie seasons couldn't be starker in difference.
Cannot wait for this:
LAF - Zib - Kakko
Bread - Chytil - Kravtsov
Kreider - Howden - Buch
Lemmy - Barron - GOAT
Digi, Rooney
Strome left the building...
Hayes was also 23 years old
Is there any financial benefit to the team sending Barron and Robertson from the taxi squad to the AHL?
Jersey seems like an obvious destination for Laine. Get used to seeing him light us up.
GARRIOCH: Patrik Laine and the Jets will be interesting this season | Ottawa Sun
He'll get that entire team addicted to Fortnite.
The only landing spot for him that would REALLY worry me is Carolina. They have the room to straighten him out.
He would be a problem wearing either sweater. Carolina is clearly ahead of many while that added muscle and maturing Hughes is quickly becoming relevant. Jersey is going to find him a rocket to feed the biscuit at some point.
i've said before but right now this teams problem is there's no identity. not to say i think there's issues or anything, i think they just don't have a presence to them. part of that is the lineup being volatile and young players jockeying for position within it as well as finding who they are in the.
their identity is both on paper and in the media. They’re so young and so talented.
You’re right, there is nothing else. Maturing, developing, rotating, working together, etc. Looks like a bunch of skaters trying to figure out how to play together. Again, I think the team needs a checking line. A grinding line to slow the game down a bit. I think that would help everybody. Lemieux made an impact yet wasn’t flashy. Not that be’s destined for a checking line but i would like to see Kakko using his frame on the boards. Of course, he needs ice time.
I’ve pushed for Boone Jenner before, I’ll do it again.
Yes, totally agree! The kids have such a short leash while "veterans" have such a long one. Our "kids" will be the heart of the team soon. Kakko has played better and still gets no pp time or better linemates and situations. Maddening!!!This. I get what Quinn is trying to do with teaching young players accountability and “easing” them in, but Kakko isn’t a rookie anymore and is a priority asset to this organization. He should be given just as long to find his game as Strome.
If we’re going to demote kids and cut their PP time for not “finding the on switch” than Chytil, who is now in his third full season but actually seeing NHL action for the 4th year in a row - and actually has a goal and an assist for 2pts in 3 games, versus Strome’s ZERO - than Chytil should be getting a shot to center Panarin right now. Or should we wait til his 4th full season? Or 5th when Strome’s contract is up?
Moreover, we’ve drafted two high creativity, high skill kids with the #1/2 pick in back to back years. Give them the damn PP time. They can’t be less productive than Strome or the second unit currently are, and nothing is better for their confidence and “getting their game going” than getting some PP time and maybe a few easy points.
Right now Hughes obviously looks a step or two ahead of Kakko in his development, but Kakko averaged 14:17 per game as a rookie and is averaging 12:04 so far in his sophomore campaign. Hughes averaged 15:52 as a rookie last year and is getting 19:57 a night so far this year. Sure, we’re a bit deeper, but at some point you just have to let the kids f***ing play if you expect them to get going. These aren’t late 1st rounders or 3rd round picks that you HAVE TO integrate slowly with 14 minutes a night. They’re used to playing big minutes and they’re not going to get a significant rhythm going playing 12 minutes a night and getting scolded like a puppy for every single mistake.
I’ve pushed for Boone Jenner before, I’ll do it again.
