I'm assuming he could play for Hartford as long as the WHL hasn't started up yet. Same with Schneider. The rule is there to keep players playing in the CHL and isn't really relevant if the league isn't playing.
31 Thoughts: Intriguing NHL futures bets for 2020–21 season
Friedman confirmed my assumption:

21. The Rangers signed 2020 first-rounder Braden Schneider to an AHL-only deal, and that’s going to be a trend. Schneider plays for WHL Brandon, but until that league plays, he can go to the AHL. The WHL is going to try, though. One possibility: a 24-game schedule starting late February, weekend games only.

From province to province, there could be differences in who plays where. Some teams in their own building, some teams in hubs (Kelowna could be one, for example). American teams might have to move into Canada, because there are questions about how many want to play. It’s an enormous challenge. This will determine where Schneider — and others — compete.

Logan Brown might be available, according to Friedman. Can we rob Ottawa again?

Was a big fan of Brown in his draft year. Unfortunately the injury bug has really nagged at him and he's had a hard time developing. Would be interested if the price was right (swap for another struggling 2016 pick in Hajek, perhaps?) but not going to go out of my way to get him.

Couple interesting Rangers connections too. Scored his first NHL goal against us and was linemate of Lemmy in his draft year. The two played pretty well together after Lemmy was traded to Windsor.

Hajek is going to get us a center somehow, dammit.

Expecting it might be a stretch. It's possible but just because a player is still young doesn't guarantee his production will go up. I always think of Selänne when we discuss this who set his single season records for goals and points in his rookie season and never got close to those again
Yes, this. Everyone seems to be assuming Tony will jump up to a 70 pace.

My first thought on Johnson, Smith and the 7th defenseman is there will probably be a rotation between the two of them to get them both in games. Then my second thought is that we are going to see them both in the lineup at times as Quinn sits Miller after games where he may have struggled. Just want to brace everyone for that likely outcome.

That may well be the unfortunate outcome at times.

Unless Miller blows everyone away ala Adam Fox, in which case no problem

That is not true remotely. They know they still need long term solutions at center, they know they likely have more options than they can use at RD, and they know they are about to ice a team that cannot realistically compete for a Cup. The situations are actually relatively similar in many ways, frankly.
What I said is 100% true. The facts and circumstances regarding the Rangers could not be more different today than they were back on the day of the 2019 draft.
I'm actually not in a rush to trade DeAngelo.

I'm operating under the assumption that you stated, that he will be moved when Schneider is close, or some other player that offers more size and defense.
If he is moved, it will be when Gorton decides that there is a return profile that he likes and it will help shore up a weakness in the starting line up.
???

But the entire premise here is that you just said that you cannot see them keeping him when Schneider comes knocking.

So by that definition a move would need to be made.
No, I said that for a trade to even be considered, one of the factors is that a prospect is looking to knock on NHL's door. By that definition, it is a factor in a trade being considered.
Well if he does that all of a sudden then a Zegras-like return isn't as far fetched, is it? And by that time maybe another player they love like Lundell is much closer to the NHL and has proven himself as a prospect. A lot of things could happen, and one of those things might be that there is a "future," center sitting there that we love, and some team has a need for a RD and is willing to deal one of those future centers we love.

As such this blanket prohibition on acquiring "futures," is seriously misplaced.

You'd have to get serious in-NHL value for it to be better than snagging a player like Lundell or Zegras in exchange for a repeat-performance DeAngelo.

Again, we're talking a situation where Schneider is taking his job relatively soon, and under that premise, that moving DeAngelo for a high-value future is better than a lesser-value current league player, since DeAngelo's role is being filled internally anyway.
Why do you insist on conflating Zegras and Lundell? And why do you insist on believing that Gorton and JD would have the same feelings for the latter as they do for the former?

Is there a scenario in which DeAngelo is traded for futures? Sure. I already outlined the no other choice in the matter scenario. Are there prospects that management would think about trading him for? Sure. But by an large the those type of prospects are on rebuilding teams. Teams that do not make for good trading partners with the Rangers, who are not looking for trades that boos the farm system at this time. So then you are moving down to a lower level of prospects on teams that are also considered to be playoff contenders. And in those cases, unless I am forgetting someone, no, I do not believe that DeAngelo would be dealt for a prospect on that tier.

Almost forgot that this next year will already be the third of his contract. Barring anything catastrophic, he'll also easily reach year four.
Agreed. Unless the wheels completely fall of the bus, Quinn will be back behind the bench next year.

I am not expecting it. Just pointing out that he may not be done developing his game. And thinking that a 65 point season from him is possible is not a huge stretch. But no, not expecting it. Frankly, if he becomes a regular 50+ point defenseman, it is home run.

What success do you speak of exactly?
Awww....look what crawled out of the woodworks........Just in time for the season.

Quinn's success? Team over achieved last year. Some of the vets had the best seasons of their life. The younger players took meaningful steps forward in their play. The rookies, by and large, played well.
