They were on the backpage for years after winning the cup too. And not just for big wins. In '97 during the playoffs there was a backpage story about Kovalev returning from injury. That was the entire story, it was a picture of him in a practice jersey and the story was that he was skating and might return soon to the playoffs.
Blame the NHL for the lack of presence. They do everything possible to bury their own sport. I’m disgusted right now. Completely directionless league this past month. The lights are basically completely off. No one is doing anything. No one knows when they’re going to play if they’re going to play. That’s why they can’t grow the game. Putting the fans under constant duress between constant labor disputes and a ridiculous hard cap. Instead of enjoying the league it’s more and more worrying about financials. The public has enough of that in their own lives.

This is not a rush. All other professional leagues have played and the NBA is in training camp. The NHL cannot afford to be the only professional league not to play.

The main point I took away from the NBA decision making is that it was crucial to them to not disrupt NEXT season. The 21-22 season is gonna be where they make their money back, and they didn’t want to risk messing with it.
That’s why this is so short sighted. The reality that indoor stadiums probably won’t be back till late summer or fall. You’re not packing a hockey arena In March. So bite the bullet, get this season done In some form and plan for a full next season.

to be fair MLB has been a total disaster for some time now. They just started out in a much better place.
btw all the scandals of steroids, cheating, the game play slow as shit, Manafred making up rules as they go - they’re bleeding fans. It’s unreal if you look at the past 20-30 years of MLB fandom. It used to be neck and neck with the NFL for the top sport.
I think the Maguire/Sosa homer craze was the final nail in the coffin. Suddenly everyone was swinging for the fences no matter what the situation. Listen announcers today (NOT the big network shills)....most lament on the fact that no one plays baseball anymore....no manufacturing runs, no putting the ball in play...and BUNT -- one would think someone used the F word.

The worst thing about this pandemic is that our players can't practice together. Zibanejad practices with Lindbom, Kakko with Georgiev, but that's about it as far as I know.
Is Zibby currently in Sweden? Lindbom our wonderful selection in the second round few years back taking shots from Mika?
