You're right that it's not our problem, but I still wish the best for the kid and this is a bit concerning. Lias made an estimated $1.1m in the NHL/AHL the last few years. Not including any SHL pay. The fine was about the equivalent of $9k USD. Obviously don't want to assume anything, but it makes you wonder what kind of personal issues he may have been having in NYC to not have enough money left to pay that fine.

I have to imagine he is still doing better than 98% of Americans financially so I'm not gonna weep too hard for him.

The media is blowing the story out of proportion and going with the clickbait title. He was planning to sell the car anyway and just happened to use that money for the fine.

It's not like he HAD to sell the car to pay the fine, like they're implying in the headline.

Complete non-story, though it was cool to get a glimpse into SHL salary there. He definitely seems to be one of the better paid players...

5 game suspension for an illegal hit. Sheeeeiiiiit, I wish he showed that much combativeness while he was taking shifts in Manhatten.

Swapped his non used car to pay the fine? Meh, non story there.

I'm glad the kid is gone. but this is frivolous.

Not gonna go down defending Chicago for any particular reason but honestly at this point you probably don't want to be basing all your decisions around your players that are downsliding or about to start falling off the cliff.
I'm sure guys like Toews want to win another cup and think they can do it if just given the chance but it's not smart to try to push that forward at this point

It would seem that it’s a better approach to not telegraph that to the league. Once you lose the locker room as badly as they have, you’re on borrowed time. It’s one thing to turn the corner and build around younger guys, it’s another to have your entire veteran leadership revolt.

That interview from Lias is on the same level of attention seeking as throwing the medal. And that he doesn’t want to talk at all about what went wrong with the him and rangers. If he had nothing to hide he would say what went wrong.

Good luck to the kid regardless.

Yes but that’s expected. If a reporter starts asking about how much the fine was and you say you sold your car somewhere in your response, you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into.

Chicago fans are really upset about their letter.
Looking at who they have signed, for how much and how long/clauses, I kind of understand why they would not see the vision.

Other than San Jose who seems to not believe in aging I'm not sure there is a team in a worse position to announce they are rebuilding.

Not sure if people saw it but the Athletic had an article a week or two on the Blackhawks front office vs core player dynamic that was pretty scathing.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Toews, Kane, Keith could be moved over the next year or so.

I’d welcome Toews with some retention with open arms.

As would I, but we need to get out of the woods a bit first.

What terrible timing to send that letter and kick off a rebuild. Big contracts are going to be near impossible to move.
Asset management obviously not their strong suit.

4d chess by Gorton!

Count me in as liking Toews in the middle six at an affordable AAV. I can easily see him winning another Cup or two as the “grizzly vet.”

Would love to get Toews if the Hawks were happy to eat $3-4m; sounds like he might have a bit of a point to prove to the Hawks brass as well.
This is where $13m in dead cap space really comes back to bite us in the arse
