I'll say it right now, Jonathan Toews will be traded at 50% retention within the next 1-2 season. Can almost guarantee it. I can also say confidently we'll be in the mix unless we figure out a better option. I'd be happy to have him centering in the middle 6 and providing leadership on a $5.25 x 2 year contract. Still a top 6 forward.

Only if Chicago covers half of his yearly salary. Then we can talk.

I like Toews but give me Kirby Dach. Kakko and Dach were my 2 guys I wanted in 2019 draft. I wonder how fans would feel if Dach was taken 2ed overall and Kakko went to the Hawks.

It does seem like the Chicago vets are pretty pissed off.

I dunno what that front office is thinking, but way to go devaluing your assets by being idiotic.

I like KK and think he will have a long career as a top 6 winger.

That being said, I think we'll be sitting here 3 years from now saying we wish we had Dach.

Chicago is not giving you Dach. Oh, there certainly is a market clearing rate for everything, but I do not thin that you would be too comfortable with the asking price.

Not our problem

You're right that it's not our problem, but I still wish the best for the kid and this is a bit concerning. Lias made an estimated $1.1m in the NHL/AHL the last few years. Not including any SHL pay. The fine was about the equivalent of $9k USD. Obviously don't want to assume anything, but it makes you wonder what kind of personal issues he may have been having in NYC to not have enough money left to pay that fine.

Why wouldn't he waive to come here?

Keith is divorced, his son lives full time in BC with his mother. He is also from BC.

I don’t have any video/articles off hand, but I know it’s been talked about by people within the hawks orbit, like Mark Lazarus, that the only place Keith would be willing to waive his NTC would be so he’s closer to his son.

A lot of time wasted here debating on Howden, he's a bottom 6 player, i don't know what people are expecting from him? His progression is on par with a guy who was pushed into the nhl. He needs to fill out, anyone that watched him earlier in his career would know his strength was his ability to use his size, with bigger players came tougher matchups, i don't know how he will turn out but its useless debating it until he matures physically, because until then he won't be able to play his game. What we are seeing now is him trying to adapt to fill a role.

Howden will be like his brother another 1st round bust, out of the league in 3-5 years at most.

Quinton Howden Hockey Stats and Profile at hockeydb.com

Brett Howden (b.1998) Hockey Stats and Profile at hockeydb.com

At least Brett has been consistently in the NHL. both of them suck and should retire.

8 years of pro hockey. Why should Quinton retire? He is earning money playing hockey. Same with Brett.

Imagine if someone told you to quit because you are not among the top 600 in your profession in the world

He didn't sell the car to pay his fine. He sold it because he wasn't using it anymore as it was still in Göteborg

The money he got for the car just happened to be roughly the same as the fine.

Not gonna go down defending Chicago for any particular reason but honestly at this point you probably don't want to be basing all your decisions around your players that are downsliding or about to start falling off the cliff.
I'm sure guys like Toews want to win another cup and think they can do it if just given the chance but it's not smart to try to push that forward at this point

And that's distinctly possible as well. I guess it's difficult to surmise whether it's his physical limitations holding him back (which include strength, speed and agility) or whether he isn't processing the game fast enough. Based on his play from his younger years I didn't see a guy who didn't understand where to be but perhaps he is still adjusting. That's possible.

I think in his first little stint in the NHL he was getting by basically on adrenaline which isn't uncommon...to see a guy make the team out of camp and come out of the gates strong and then fade as the reality of the season sets in.
He's had spurts of good play and seeming like he "gets it" but again I wonder if the coaching staff is doing him a disservice by then leveraging those spurts of good play into giving him bigger minutes that he struggles with. Then again I might be making that part up, I'm not about to go back and dissect his game by game.

Why all the Chicago talk? Has there been something said about them trying to move guys (other than Toews complaining about rebuilding the other day).

They sent a "letter" to their season ticket holders just like the Rangers did a few years ago.

It was obvious from their roster for a while that they needed to rebuild, and now it's official.
