Can Lafrienere play one game before we anoint him first line ready?
"Anointing". Overboard much? It's a suggestion to put him alongside our most responsible, effective, talented center. Maybe try that rather than bury him on a line with other guys who are trying to find their place. All indications are that this is a player ready to step in. No, learning smaller rinks, or adjusting to north america, etc. And there will be a camp to try this out. I'd like them to start there and see how it works.

This idea that Laf shouldn’t be with Zibby because it puts too much pressure on him misses the point - that being to have 3 good lines. If you are designing lines like teams did in the 90s then that’s different. But arguably having Panarin on one line, and Zibby as a second and then ?-Chytil-Buch/Kreider on the 3rd gives us 3 quality lines to roll with

Kreider - Zibanejad - Buchnevich proven to be very capable playing against other teams top lines. If Lafreniere is as advertised and Chytil continues his progression then what’s the problem matching them against opponents lower lines?

Yup, I mean I’d understand if the Rangers were barren talent wise but it’s the opposite - they have the luxury of not forcing the issue. Canes did the same with Aho, Svechnikov. There are more examples from the past.

Do you think it’s a possibility that the rangers walk away from strome and trade Buch for a center to replace with what they lost in strome?
I would imagine, if either Strome or Lemieux actually go to arbitration they’d still end up signing their original offers.
They’d be going to arbitration simply to get their “official” salary ruling to keep in their “back pocket” for future use.

Either way I’m pretty sure the Rangers have numbers for both and that’s what they’ll be playing for this year.

I'm all aboard the Monahan train.

Move Strome and cough (Buch) if necessary and just get it done.

If not Buch, they have the pieces to make it work.

Wish they could've pulled something off involving that little bitch, LA but it's what it is..

IT's fine if he isn't, but his effectiveness is really tied to Panarin.

If you take Panarin away, he's more or less useless.
I mean I think he needs to be with a winger who can drive a line. I don’t know if that has to be Panarin. I don’t think he is coming back, and if he does, it’s going to be very temporary

If I'm the Rangers and I'm looking around at the league and I'm asking myself who is going to pay Ryan Strome over 4m a year? Senators? Buffalo? And if Strome goes to those kind of teams who will his linemates be? And will his numbers EVER look good enough to sniff close to 4m again? Rangers have the leverage here. Anything over 4 and I hope the Rangers walk.
I think they’d definitely walk but I also think Strome then signs the original $4m offer. This is a choreographed dance. The only question is whether or not Strome - or Lemieux - push it all the way through to the arbitrator so they can have an official number.
Again, just my sense.

I asked before but didn’t get a response - does anyone currently signed could play a role of pugilist or at least a middleweight?
Good question. I don’t think so. Just ADA, I guess. I think what you’re getting at is that they’ll probably look to bring in a Haley-type. Unless they’ve trading for someone like that. You’re probably right.

e: I just saw @Edge point out Lemieux can handle this role. I agree. Forgot about him, actually. I still think they might bring in a Haley type though. They always do.

I think it's like 4.5 something. In that range anyways, but yeah, I don't think they could walk away from $4.5 exactly.
That would be the onion in the ointment. But I guess if they had to do $4.5m they’d take it out of Lemieux’s pot. Sadly.

I was hoping that one of the guys already here could take it on. Lemieux would be my natural choice but it hasn’t been his game so far. Maybe Gettinger?

From what I gather Getts isn’t really that guy. I could be wrong of course. He’s like a lot of our bigger guys...reticent to scrap. But that’s cool. It’s generally unnecessary but I’d like to have one or two guys who can step up. Maybe Lemieux and ADA is enough...I tend to think our coaching staff wants one more policeman.

he needs a guy to do all the heavy lifting in getting the puck up ice with control.

Panarin is as good as it gets at that.

Both Raddysh and Fontaine were resigned. Just leaves Strome and Lemieux as the remaining RFAs.

Does Fontaine have any NHL potential? I remember people saw him as a bit of a dark horse a while ago. Could he be a late bloomer?
