Imagine if Chytil becomes a good 2C. That would make us competitive without having to do anything.

or Howden, or Barron or Laf or ?

I think sit tight is the best move. Strome arbitration for one year is fine by me too. Could take him or leave him. Certainly leave him long term.

young players usually get better, often much better. we got kakko, chytil, howden, lindgren, fox to improve. id be willing to bet those 5 will be improved. add Laf and i think were significantly improved if zibby and panarin can come close to repeating last year

Based the Rangers comments today, they’re totally fine with this team getting another 10 pick next summer

In an ideal world they would be making moves to contend quicker before Fox, Laf and Kakko need new deals but when a fourth of your cap space is tied up in buyouts, you’re kinda SOL

The plan has always been to pivot towards contention after the expansion draft happens. All of their moves seem like they have been cenetered around that. Sure Laf and all the ELCs throws a wrench into it, but its literally the best problem we could have had with our rebuild.

Laf apparently does everything a center does except take faceoffs
Yeah like he's one of those guys where it seems really arbitrary. If we're being conservative this season anyway and not super concerned about all teh gamez then I don't think it would hurt to experiment with it.

Guys we have no idea what the Rangers have been up to. Gorton could have been on the phone 24/7 for the last week trying to make a big move. Frankly there’s been a lot of crazy shit happening, so, be careful what you wish for...
The cup isn't won a week after free agency. But if you want a chance at a value deal, you have to be patient.

We have the elite players already. We talk all year how you don't over pay for depth. There are 2 and 1/2 month until puck drop.

lindgren trouba
deangelo fox (very favorable matchups)
johnson smith

do it
Omg that bottom pairing  I think that based on the time together Smith gets a shot with Trouba to start the season if nothing else happens.

Oops posted in the football thread lol

I wrote so basically Vegas is going with Karlsson and Glass as their top 2 centers? Yikes. Are they really better now?

Chandler Stephenson centered the Stone line for 240 mins last year (Stastny 350ish) and the kind was just as good if not better. Don’t think it really matters if they are weak at c they are elite on the wing

Ah yes, but free agency is often a week after the Cup is won :teach2:

PDG is already re-signed for $700K. CapFriendly updated this eve to include the deal.

So we're at 12 forwards, 6 dmen and 1 goalie, with a little over 14 mil to spend. Strome, Lemmy, ADA and Georgiev gets us to 14, 7 and 2. In theory, Smith is both 13th forward and 7th dman, meaning we can drop 2 forwards and save about 1.5 mil.

That guy is in no way close to good enough to be centering a top two line of a contender

they’re not that elite on the wing. Stone is elite. That’s where the elite on the wing ends.

They aren't flipping a righty to the left. That's posturing for the trade market.

Trouba had a foot out the door in Winnipeg over the switch. Deangelo has enough on his plate defensively playing the right. They should be protecting Fox's career instead of compromising his development for this Frankenstein season.

Smith should be on the left, platoon him and JJ with whichever prospect is deserving.

I mean brad Richards and Michal Handzus’s corpses we’re 2Cs that won a cup

most teams don’t have the wingers to pull it off but I think centers are overrated honestly

I didn’t say just their 2C was weak. Their one C is weak too.

and like I said sure Stone elite. But JM Smith and Patches are good but certainly not elite wingers.

I don’t think they’ve improved their weakness frankly
