I mean, Ryan Murray for a 5th and now NS for a 3rd? Colorado paid a pair of 2nds for Devon Toews a few hours ago. Like, the f***.

Well Crap. Rangers could have offered better than that and found a way to make Schmidt work. Perfect guy to shield young developing left D and easily moveable down the road if the prospects eventually push him down the lineup.

Rangers fans will trade their own kids already making it for older, more-expensive and inferior players established in other cities.

Plus, many people here still haven't figured out how the cap works. Its only been 15 years now.
hed be significantly our best LD but hes a canuck now. our LD is a big problem, well see how that gets addressed.

Murray is made of glass bones and paper skin

Vegas backed themselves into a corner and were FORCED to make a losing trade

Toews is cheap and signed long term

they all make sense to me

Would anyone seriously be advocating to have signed Schmidt to a 5 year 30M deal if he was a UFA this offseason going into his age 29 season? No? They why would we have wanted to trade for him now? He's a good fit as a player. He's not a great fit at his age/deal with our current team.

Especially with the way the market has been this year you have tons of guy signing way cheaper than expected.

Vegas knew signing Pietrangelo would mean dumping an asset like Schmidt for cheaper than he was worth, yet that really shouldn't change anything from Vegas' perspective. Choosing between Schmidt and Pietrangelo/3rd round pick is not a hard choice at all.

Guess we're keeping Strome and Tony if these are the prices for guys that need $4M-$5M contracts

Time to start pumping their tires to inflate their values at the deadline. Not much takers right now but I bet the market will be better for the deadline $$ and cap wise.

So the Rangers will have $4.8MM in space with 22 players signed if Geo, ADA, Lemiuex and Strome cost $14MM combined.

This includes Bitetto, PDG, Rooney and Blackwell (based off cap friendly)

Was just noticing the same thing. Unless they're preparing for ADA and Strome to come in at like $7MM each, they DO have SOME room.

Not a lot, but enough to do some interesting things...

They need at least $1MM in operating room so take that down to $3.8MM. Plenty or room for a target of opportunity if it presents itself.

Especially since you're at 24 players right now with your RFAs. If you sign someone else, you have a bunch of other contracts to bury to create more room.
Whoops, looks like we're wrong. Although CapFriendly shows the bonus penalty, it doesn't subtract it from the available cap space. So, you need to subtract the $3.9MM from the available space, eating up all that extra room it looked like we had.

Don't care if he only cost a 2031 7th, he would have f***ed up our cap situation going forward. Gorton was right to stay away. We NEED some ELC guys to force their way onto our defense. its the only way.
At this point, they're not gonna need to use much force
