I'd rather just have one of Trouba, Fox or ADA on the ice at all 5on5 times during the game than see a 3rd pair that stinks for 10-15 mins per game.

If the Rangers are winning play Trouba, Fox more, if they are losing play ADA, Fox more. Tied they may as well roll the three pairs. Special teams we all know who is good at what.

I agree with you. I think Trouba has the ability to be coached into being passable defensively. He plays dumb but he's not that dumb to the point where he can't be salvaged, and he's team guy so he'd be willing to try.
Chara was like that. It took Redden and (lucky us) Martin to set him on the right course, if I recall correctly.

I doubt that’s going to happen. NHL is losing money. All other sports are continuing. I know they want fans and it to be safe but at the end of the day all anyone of the owners care about is making a profit. They won’t keep pushing it off. And Players got bills to pay.
I'm ready to wear a mask and go to as many games as possible. Have a waiver system, put up plexiglass or whatever eases the government's minds, space everyone out, IDC. I want to go to MSG this year and I'm sure there are plenty of fans who would go as well.

I know they have more on the line but most people are taking a hit on salary the next year or so. The NHL would lose way more in the long term if they stopped. If they continue, even without fans, they have potential increases with TV deals. I think they should look ahead at the positives and not have short term thinking.

Id bank on Barron making this squad especially if we don't get something done with Strome. I really get the feeling NY like both him and Miller and have them pencilled in to the lineup. They will have to have a good camp but i do believe they are part of this years plan.

No secret i’m a big Barron fan. It’s been a while since college hockey was halted and who knows when the NHL season will begin. Barron has been off for a while so i would figure he starts in Hartford with NY not too far away.

i’m overly optimistic so i’m saying he’ll be a #2C yet likely a #3C. Look forward to watching him.

Ive been watching him since he was a kid, he continues to improve, a lot, year to year. I don’t know where his ceiling is because it keeps changing but 5 years ago he'd have been a big question to be an AHL'er and since then he has leaped forward each year moving the line each year. It doesn’t hurt that he trains with the rest of the guys from Halifax in the summer ie Crosby, Mackinnon, Marchand..

options for our center :sarcasm::sarcasm::help:

Joe Thornton to join HC Davos - TSN.ca

joking but imagine if the Rangers signed Thornton for 1 year lmfao highly unlikely but it would be funny

Not a fan of a move like this, he was never fast and getting slower, we like to push the pace i don't see him being a fit at this age. He'd also be a really hard guy to bench if he did stink, gimme Barron or some other young guy instead. Love Joe the player but i dont see him leaving San Jose anyway

right now RW should be buchnevich, kakko and gauthier...and then I'm not sure if he's played wing before but maybe Kevin Rooney on the 4th line since he kills penalties and could replace fast in that area.
What I like is that in general, it seems like there is going to be a lot of competition on the lower two lines. And I am still not discounting that a Clifford type will also be brought in and added to the mix. Rooney is going to challenge Howden for 4C. Unlike some other signings, I think that his is by design as his style of play is what Quinn and Gorton are after.

I also do not think that it is just point totals that will win out but rather how those bottom 2 lines will compliment the skill of the top 2. I think that Gauthier will battle Kakko for who has the better camp and who gets to play on the Panarin line. Providing that Kakko beats him out, then it will be up to him to fend others off for the third line wing.

Many of these kids are going to be facing an up or out situation.

To have any chance of that, they would need to come in and outperform the competition. I hardly believe that any rookies are penciled into anything.

I think bringing in additional depth is going to depend on the price of the remaining RFAs or their replacements...if cheaper than expected there might be extra space to see if some veteran insurance is available

I do believe that Quinn and Gorton want the type of forward that has more sandpaper in his game. But I also think that they are more than willing to wait to see if they can get one on the cheap.

The NHL will lose more money if they play without any fans. The league is heavily gate-driven.

Yes, they did just play the playoffs without fans, but that was in 2 locations with minimal travel, and the TV contracts would have been negatively impacted if they didn't complete the season. Also consider that players don't get paid for the playoffs, outside of the bonus pool for advancing teams. IIRC, that was a total of 24 mil for the entire league.

Some teams simply can't afford to play a regular season without fans, with each team having to pay 60+ mil to players. The current US TV contract is 200 mil per year, and the TV contract with Rogers is 4.97 billion (US) over 12 years. That's about 415 mil per year. There are regional rights deals as well, but the national contracts are the biggest money makers for the league as a whole.

615 mil divided by 31 teams is roughly 20 mil per team.

League revenue for 2018-19 was 5.09 billion. That is mostly driven by ticket and merchandise sales.

Hopefully they can find a way to play games with at least some fans.

Tough for me to keep a close eye on him. I watch highlights yet saw him live at the prospects camp.

The prospect camp was very fast with many players sprinting in all directions. My perception is you could tell which players understood the feel of the game so it was slower while others were sprinting and trying to make something happen.

Not to go through the whole roster but I felt Barron, Kakko, Fox and Nils had the best feel for the game. Others did well but you could still see the awareness was lighter and the decisions were more rushed. (Robertson might be a Beukeboom and apparently Miller has come a long way since camp. Zak Jones looked pretty good). . . Barron knew where the play was going, played his angeles well and was calm with the puck. He also uses his body to shield off defenders to maintain control of the puck, win the corner battle and come away with the pass. I liked what i saw.

Of course, the most electrifying player was Kravtsov who never made it out of camp. Like Jack Hughes, Kravtsov needs to physically mature. Something Barron clearly has done.

cheers

Pencilled = not guaranteed but they feel he has a real shot to play, pencils have erasers....get it.

For those privy to scouting 4A players, how do McKegg and Rooney compare as 4C/13F stopgaps? About the same age, stats, and size.

Rooney is better defensively and on the PK. Brings more of an edge. I think McKegg has a bit more skill.

For what it's worth, I think Blackwell and PDG have just as good an opportunity to be the team's 12/13F as Rooney does as it stands now.

as it stands right now, I think that 2 of those 3 will be on the team as the 12th/13th forward...the other will be waived in hopes of getting them to hartford as a veteran down there

I guess it depends on where Barron fits into the picture and what happens with Strome. But as of now we have

Kreider Zibanejad Buchnevich
Panarin Strome Kakko
Lafreniere Chytil Gauthier
Lemieux Howden ______

That last spot could go to Barron, Rooney, PDG, Blackwell or even Gettinger or Fogarty.

Also important to note that it is likely roster sizes will be expanded for the upcoming season, especially if there will be temporary bubbles/hubs for series of games.

He's been taught the game really well, the halifax area has been really good with developing good players the last number of years, and nova scotia in general. The best thing about it is that Crosby, Marchand and Mackinnon grab other good players from the province and they train and practice together, it really helps the younger players because they are learning from the best in the league, you see the progression with all the players who train with these guys the Killorns,Graves, Batherson, Highmore, both Barrons, etc etc etc. Basically if you are on a road to the NHL in nova scotia there's a good chance you'll train with this group in the offseason.
