Lindgren Trouba sounds very promising
Definitely the right idea. We don’t want two defensemen trying to be Bobby Orr at the same time. Not sure how a Fox-ADA pairing would work, though. Would require some discipline. Not impossible but maybe unnecessarily limiting.

In Ulf's defense, the whole "f*** my position I'm just gonna kill somebody" was more effective in the 90's with less speed in the game. Nowadays, you get caught, and I feel like the Rangers still think it's the 90's in some ways.
Unless you can also skate. Kronwall was a good example of it. Otherwise, as you say, you end up with a Phaneuf situation.

Unless one of them becomes Scott Niedermeyer, there needs to be a defensive defenseman or at least a two-way defenseman, with each of those guys.

Fox was literally one of the better two-way defenseman in the NHL, I don't understand why he and ADA wouldn't work.

. You aint running the team. Like has been said so many times before, the fans on this board worry much more about the cap than the actual GMs do.

appears the GM is talking cap as much i and others are. And they are running the team.

cheers

But he could be molded into a crease clearing defenseman in his own zone. I’m thinking he could become something between Blake and Chara — in style, not level.
I agree with you. I think Trouba has the ability to be coached into being passable defensively. He plays dumb but he's not that dumb to the point where he can't be salvaged, and he's team guy so he'd be willing to try.

Some talk that the actual start date to the season may be Jan 15 or Feb 1.

If that’s the case, it will be interesting to see if NYR allow Laf to go play in the WJC, 12/26 - 1/5. They were asked about it during the conference call and didn’t rule it out.

I don’t see both making it. I don’t want to rush Robertson. I know they liked his camp last year. But I think the 21-22 season or even 22-23 season is a better ETA for Robertson to make his push to the NHL. Mix a year in the AHL in there. I dont want to rush any of our D prospects tbh. Let them develop organically, succeeding at each level. I think we rushed Howden, Lias, Hajek, and even Chytil. Its the same reason I have reservations and skepticism with some people here penciling in Barron to the opening night lineup.

For me its Reunanen then Hajek for that other LD spot. Keeping DeAngelo on the right side.

And then as the season goes on and an opportunity presents itself to acquire a LD to upgrade Johnson then we make the move. But I think management is being cautious with how they approach the LD situation. Lindgren might be exposed to Seattle. If Reunanen plays great, you still have Hajek, Miller, and Robertson all possibly pushing over the next 3 years for maybe 1 spot, and thats if they dont acquire a Vince Dunn. Zac Jones too.

I would rather focus our efforts on 2C (1C-B options) and bottom 6 depth. Whether its a Monahan or an Eichel, or its a Boyle/Brassard/Granlund/C.Wilson/Haula/Thornton, thats what I think the best direction is to look into for this offseason.

Derek Stepan made the team out of camp after 2 years in college, I don’t see why Barron couldn’t get a chance to do the same. So I guess we rushed Derek Stepan Ryan Callahan and Brandon Dubinsky too right. Some players take longer to make an impact than others.

If that’s the case Laf will have gone like a whole damn year without playing

I’d def consider letting him go to the WJC

I can’t see how the WJC will be played since it’s in NA this time.

They should have Elorantaa calls TPS, you want two for the price of one?

Well I didn’t say Barron couldn’t make the team. I said I had skepticism about it because I do think he is a good prospect and dont want to rush him. Especially given what our recent track record has been bringing up the kids prematurely.

And to be fair its not like Dubinsky went right to the Rangers after he left Portland. He played pretty much a full year in Hartford. D+4 was his first full year in the NHL.

Callahan got 14 games in the NHL in his D+3 year. But he spent most of that year in Hartford. The following year, like Dubinsky, he spent most of the year with the Rangers but still saw some time in Hartford.

Stepan made the quicker jump with a full year in his D+3 season. But I also think you are looking at a guy who had a better pedigree leaving college then compared to Barron now, and there is nothing wrong with that, there is no knock on Barron. Stepan was also a true center and that gave him an edge, but so did his play in camp.

It comes down to camp, certainly, but there is nothing wrong with Barron going through the process a bit as he transitions from Amateur to the Pros. It is his D+4 season, but Dubinsky and Callahan had at least gone through that transition in their D+3 seasons. And I think there is something to be said about learning how to be a Pro, getting familiar with that environment. Its entirely different than being on a college campus with your peers. This in addition to the play on the ice, with more structured systems, and against men. More physically developed humans compared to college.

the nhl just help the entire playoffs in canada with no issue and zero cases...having the tournament in Edmonton where the nhl just was shouldn't be an issue for the games. I'm sure they won't have fans but it is what it is...

big issue will likely be that canada will require players to quarantine 14 days so teams will have to travel there earlier than normally planned.

I doubt that’s going to happen. NHL is losing money. All other sports are continuing. I know they want fans and it to be safe but at the end of the day all anyone of the owners care about is making a profit. They won’t keep pushing it off. And Players got bills to pay.

No secret i’m a big Barron fan. It’s been a while since college hockey was halted and who knows when the NHL season will begin. Barron has been off for a while so i would figure he starts in Hartford with NY not too far away.

i’m overly optimistic so i’m saying he’ll be a #2C yet likely a #3C. Look forward to watching him.
