Said it last season and I will say it again. Top priority needs to be finding a legit partner for Trouba. Nothing has changed that.
Lindgren?

I know we like him with Fox but Lindgren will attempt to play defense while Trouba is off being Trouba. Fox is more versatile and can probably work with a wider range of options.

I actually love the Schneider and Cuylle picks.

I was expecting this team to get some toughness through FA but still happy they acquired some balls through the draft.
It's been a long time coming..

That would be a good shutdown pair but a bit redundant and could expose other pairings defensively. I do like it as PK1 though.

Well I'm thinking this on the basis that Trouba is all offense because really, he is.

If he was 5'10" instead of 6'3" and nasty, people would view him exactly as they view Kevin Shattenkirk, honestly.

Big and nasty is a tool but it doesn't make you good defensively.

How great would it be if Robertson and Reunanen make the team on the left side and all of these conversations are for naught.

Also, for people clamoring for a RD to be signed, Smith is capable of playing RD for a season if that spot opens up. Another reason to keep him around.

Matter of fact, the Rangers really love their big, dumb defensemen who should be able to defend but have no idea how. Moore, Skjei, Trouba. They started turning McDonagh into it too. It's habitual here.

I was hoping Martin would turn this around but pushing for Johnson, who is in the dictionary next to "big dumb defenseman," ain't a great start.

What are we gonna teach Miller when he gets here?

I got news for you.
No defenseman past or present will survive in this joke of a system.

To be fair, Skjei and Moore have always been that player.

I don’t see both making it. I don’t want to rush Robertson. I know they liked his camp last year. But I think the 21-22 season or even 22-23 season is a better ETA for Robertson to make his push to the NHL. Mix a year in the AHL in there. I dont want to rush any of our D prospects tbh. Let them develop organically, succeeding at each level. I think we rushed Howden, Lias, Hajek, and even Chytil. Its the same reason I have reservations and skepticism with some people here penciling in Barron to the opening night lineup.

For me its Reunanen then Hajek for that other LD spot. Keeping DeAngelo on the right side.

And then as the season goes on and an opportunity presents itself to acquire a LD to upgrade Johnson then we make the move. But I think management is being cautious with how they approach the LD situation. Lindgren might be exposed to Seattle. If Reunanen plays great, you still have Hajek, Miller, and Robertson all possibly pushing over the next 3 years for maybe 1 spot, and thats if they dont acquire a Vince Dunn. Zac Jones too.

I would rather focus our efforts on 2C (1C-B options) and bottom 6 depth. Whether its a Monahan or an Eichel, or its a Boyle/Brassard/Granlund/C.Wilson/Haula/Thornton, thats what I think the best direction is to look into for this offseason.

I have a really bad feeling about our defense. Our offense is perfectly adequate. We can win a championship with our offense. It’s our defense that’s killing us. We have some good pieces, but the system had been terrible. Jack Martin should be an improvement, but the push for JJ should be a red flag as tall as MSG. The left side is still a major concern, and it seems management is content with the personnel we have. The good-ish news is lefties are more common than righties, so finding LHDs theoretically shouldn’t be as difficult as finding RHDs, but it’s hard to have faith in the team with how we’ve treated free agency. It’s frustrating feeling like we’ve made lateral moves to our personnel rather than a real step forward.

In Ulf's defense, the whole "f*** my position I'm just gonna kill somebody" was more effective in the 90's with less speed in the game. Nowadays, you get caught, and I feel like the Rangers still think it's the 90's in some ways.

I think you might be selling him a little short.
He was very effective especially in his own end and around the net.
Would he be as effective today?
That's anyone's guess..

But he could be molded into a crease clearing defenseman in his own zone. I’m thinking he could become something between Blake and Chara — in style, not level.
