Nonsense. There's a process. Last year they got a small taste of post season. This coming year we look for a step forward from a lot of the kids. You need to surround them with competent vets, trying to win. Most fans realize they're not experienced enough and deep enough to win it all this season. But they should be striving for the next step forward. Throwing that away to tank would be unproductive. You don't go form last to the Cup.
This, tanking and deadline sales were Phase 1. We’re in Phase 2 now for the next year, expiring contracts, expiring buy out dead space, budgeting bonuses, and Exp draft, etc. Admin stuff largely.

Phase 3 starts after, this includes graduating/signing young talent (Miller, Barron, Lundkvist, Kratvsov, etc), solutioning 2C long term, making tweaks and signings where needed to fill holes, balance line up. Window is opening shortly boys.

These signings are starting to get depressing. I have a feeling we are staying put with what we have on top of those arbitration cases. Let the kids grow for another year and unload Strome and TDA during the deadline it seems?

Probably. I think this was never a UFA class where the Rangers were going to make big or important changes to their lineup and if the trades aren't there they also aren't going to force them. They want to deal from a position of strength to address weaknesses but if they aren't getting the returns they want, again, why force it. The top young players on the team need some time to adapt and get better, so it's fine to not try to load all up this year I think. Plus you never know maybe Chytil finally breaks out this year.

Dunno what to tell him...I was in his corner and it sucks when things don't work out but again unless there's some stuff behind the scenes going on it doesn't seem like he was treated "special" in any detrimental way either.

I suspect he was just mostly mad he didn't get as much of a shot as someone like Howden but I think that's also him ignoring some of his flaws. I guess we'll see if he can restart his career in LA

No signing will satisfy the board. I think we are all holding our breaths for a trade but I think we have to wait till arbitration hearings to start seeing any fallout there.

I’m not sure if I’m the only one that feels this way, but I’m concerned with Kakko. Not because of anything he’s doing wrong, but because of circumstance.

I’m pretty concerned with him being on the second line. I think that the grinding and cycling game will come more with his body maturing and him getting older, but I think right now he really excels when he has a line mate that is great at getting to the puck first with the forecheck. I think that’s why the second line really worked with Fast being a big component on the forecheck and getting to the puck. I don’t think Strome is good enough in that aspect to help Kakko. Strome’s strength really comes with his chemistry with Panarin and being able to finish.

I’m also really worried about Kakko being pushed to the second power play unit due to circumstance as well with Laf coming in. I also don’t trust Quinn enough to not put Ryan Strome or some other stupid decision on the half wall. I think Kakko’s strengths lie within having time and space. We know speed is not his game but it’s his ability his body and leverage when he has time and space. I think that the half wall on the first powerplay is where is would be really effective.

Not sure if I’m the only one with these thoughts. But I don’t trust the organizations/fanbases lack of patience to want to cut ties with him in an Eichel package the first chance they get if this happens and Kakko doesn’t light it up on the second line.

It’s going to really take time and patience.

It's probably best he's a late bloomer if you think about it, because then maybe you can eat some of his UFA years and not have to empty your wallet for yet another forward. Will likely be the case with Lafreniere and Fox. If he explodes after that then you are in fantastic shape.

When Kakko is Fox's age he will have 4 seasons under his belt. He's so young!

that would be great. I’m just worried about the patience lol.

Crazy, it’s been 12 years...

I remember hopping on the board that day and seeing the RIP thread and I thought the kid did something silly or something.

I know every fanbase overrates their prospects, but I honestly believe Cherry would have been a special hockey player.

How fitting is it that we lucked out and got a franchise prospect named Alexis :puppy:

Sounds like a lot of people mistook Lias's vanity and arrogance for character. I think there's a fine line between them that players with true character know how to walk, but he's obviously firmly on one side of it. It's a real shame...

IMO the only thing that could slow them down in pursuit of play-offs is injuries.
We are still weak at center. If we go into season with Strome as our number 2 center IMO still a big issue. We are in a very competitive division and conference. I still can't get the vision of us getting steam rolled in the playoffs this year against a decent but nothing more Carolina team. Sure we had a great draft and our number 1 will have a positive impact this year but unless they strengthen the middle and defense I don't think it is a slam dunk for the playoffs.

I kinda don't want to make definitive statements about the guy but I don't think he handled it all very well either. I would suspect both sides have some blame here but the way Lias handled it seems off. The Rangers come across as maybe more cold and cutthroat in all of this perhaps but Lias has been all over the place, especially after it seems JD reached out to him and all and he made some noises like he appreciated all that and then he turns around and stabs them in the back as soon as he gets traded like he wanted.
Maybe the Rangers didn't handle things great but ultimately they didn't play hardball with him over all of this and facilitated a trade for him to a team where his goddamn dad works and then, like I said, he stabs them in the back. It still feels like a real lack of maturity on his part.

The Rangers got stronger at C if anything simply due to natural progression from Chytil and Howden. Other areas as well from my original response.

Will be very interesting in Vegas this season.

Listening to Hockey Central and Marek again reiterates he is hearing there are a number of unhappy guys in that locker room.

That and the Lokomotiv plane crash are my two darkest days as a hockey fan for sure.

Would have loved to see him on those cup competing NYR rosters.
