Doesn't score, not very physical, doesn't kill penalties. This guy is about as non-descript as it gets.
When you look at hockey from 25 or even 30 years ago, it's amazing to see how much the speed has changed. Not just the physical ability of players to skate faster, pivot faster, and edge-work, but the entire speed of the game --- passing, shooting, defending, etc. Time and space has been cut down considerably and that limits the amount of space most players have to work with.
Expansion and the salary cap also disperses talent out a lot more. Whereas in 1990 you might have someone playing on your third line who scores 30 goals and close to 60 points, that's really hard, if not impossible to find these days. Typically at some point you can't afford that kind of depth, assuming you could manage to accumlate it in the first place.
I've personally also felt that the nets should've been increased slightly as goalies and equipment got bigger. That's controversial opinion, but I do think that the operating space on the ice has been encroached upon by up to 10 percent over the years.
The one idea I saw revolving the nets that was interesting was to bevel the posts and/or crossbar. Keeps the nets the same size, but adds another x factor in. I’d be more open to something like that. After all we did just take the shortest goalie in the draftI wouldn't touch anything with goalies or the nets because scoring is up as it is.
I would be open to exploring it if scoring goes dry again.

There is also communication with the New York Rangers about former seventh overall pick Lias Andersson. Things have not worked out for the Swedish forward and the Rangers are looking to recoup a solid second-round pick for the player.
The Hurricanes have two second-round picks 41st and 53rd overall and they are proving to be attractive commodities. If Andersson tops out as a third-line player given the talent already in place in Carolina then what is his value to the Hurricanes?
And what if you end out missing out on an impact player in the second round – and there will be some – for a player that has a limited upside, Dundon wonders aloud.
The possible deal expands to include a couple of other parts, but ultimately the Hurricanes decide the fit isn’t right and Andersson ends up going to the still-rebuilding Los Angeles Kings for the 60th overall pick.
Rangers re-sign an RFA that they qualified.
Fans complain that the singings are depressing.
For a fan base of a team that just picked the 1OA a week ago, this place is bordering on insufferable.

I would be ok with that (short term deal only!!!) Big problem is we are not gonna get fair value for ADA. Best case scenario is we keep ADA for another year or two and he has another year like he did last year and we then get fair trade value for him. I hope at least. With Nils and Schneider in the fold don't see how ADA is here long term at this point. If we were to trade Deangelo, do you guys think there might be some sense in signing Vatanen for cheap. His market value dropped severely and he could be a decent RD stopgap.
Agreed. It needs to be for protecting the body, not the net. That added pad on the glove connecting the mitt and the wrist protector? Is anyone's calf 12" in diameter? I love Hank, but those extensions on top of the leg pads? They didn't cover his thigh when he went down. It's not for protection, it's for the 5 hole.i am torn on the bigger net. I mean yes goalies are bigger and take up more room. But if the nets are taller, than it would be impossible for smaller goalies to succeed thus limiting the amount of goalies in the future. Though maybe wider by an inch or two might be ok.
i still think they can make goalie equipment smaller and more form fitting, also cut down the size of the glove.
