This is my perspective.
Makes too much sense, when Chytil improves and gets more experience, they flip flop and Wenneberg takes 3C. Should sign him for 2-3 yrs. we could prob trade Strome to OTT for one of their 2nds in 2021, frees up a bit more cap to sign a stop gap LD like Borowiecki as well

Laf Ziba Buch
Pan Wenne/Chytil Kakko
Krieder Wenne/Chytil Kratvsov
Lemmy Howton Gauthier

Boro Trouba
Lind Fox
Smith ADA
Miller up mid season, pushes Boro down to 3rd pair

Correct, NTCs have no bearing and need to be protected or Seattle can pick that player; NMCs must be protected unless the player chooses to waive it
There is no such thing as standard wording. Contracts are different and each contract is reviewed by the league and they decide if a player must be protected by a team for the expansion draft. I seem to remember there was some controversy over certain players having to be protected four years ago.

Don't assume that Cap Friendly or any other source is 100% accurate. Larry Brooks told me directly two years ago that Staal had a full NMC for the length of his contract. Cap Friendly has backpeddled a few times on Contract protection.

Bringing Wenneberg in with expectations of him playing 2c is setting him up for failure. If they can swing it with the cap and can't find a 2C resign Strome, sign Wenneberg and Wallmark. Move Chytil to the wing.

Kreider - Zbad - Buch
Panarin - Strome - Kakko
Laff - Wenneberg - Chytil
Lemiuex - Wallmark - Gauthier
Howden

Portzline seems to think he would come in less than that, but who knows..

If we can sign Wennberg at $1.8M-$2.5M sign me up

It'd be in his best interest to come here to NY. Build up your value playing with our wingers and get paid in a year or two

Wennberg only makes sense if Strome is moved IMO.

I’m pretty sure Wennberg would be an awful fit on a line with Panarin. While I do believe most players could produce there do you really want to put one of the lowest volume shooting forwards in the entire wing on Panarins line? Panarin will set him up for good chances and he’ll pass them up.

Brooks came back and corrected himself when staal was traded -- staals NMC has minors-assignment protection. There was a clause inside of that NMC that dictated he also had an NTC for trades. This wasn't made public until staal was traded to Detroit

Wenneberg drafted by JD, played next to Panarin for his 59 pt season. If he comes in at 3.5 or so, Do it, let him and Chytil battle it out, trade Strome for a LD or pick. Makes the Cap happy as well

Panarin wasn’t even on Columbus the year Wennberg had 59 points. And they only played 350 minutes together over two years. And Wennberg scored 0 goals on the ice with him because as expected he just didn’t shoot.

Good thing Kreider, Kakko or Buchnevich will be out there too.

Wennberg is a bad offensive player who is an inept goal scorer. He’s good defensively and is a decent playmaker. He had one good year on the PP. I would expect 25-30 points from him in a third line role with good penalty killing and good defense. He likely will get overpaid because people think he has this offensive gear even though he never really had it. I would take him for a cheap deal but I absolutely would not play him on Panarin’s line.

As of right now... who's getting exposed?

Howden, Gauthier or Lemieux?

Still think Buch is moved at some point. If not this offseason, the next.

That’s fine but the fact is he didn’t have it right. This is to my point...these clauses are often complicated and the shorthand you see may not tell the whole story.

Solution

Sign Wennberg and Craig Smith and play them with Panarin. Smith will shoot every puck he gets and score 30 goals.

Well I guess Vegas is making the push for Pietrangelo if he wants to go there.
Winnipeg doing them a favor. Picks probably won't be high tho.

What is Columbus doing? Is their owner going bankrupt???
I mean unless they pull off a tremendous UFA later today they are losing some serious depth on defense

If Savard was a LHD I wouldn’t mind seeing if Jarmo was willing to sell on the cheap

i thought maybe it was a $$/covid thing...but they just signed domi for 2 years $5.3 mil on wed

Yeah was thinking the domi thing too but they traded Josh Anderson which made it kind of a wash IDK. Jarmo might be looking to make a splash after losing a lot of ufas last year

but if you are looking to cut payroll then why not move anderson for futures instead of taking back an equal salary
