The difference is no one is talking about locking up Strome long term.

And the fact that Montreal gave 40 million to a third liner is their problem.

Respectfully, that’s a Canadian problem. I don’t believe they set the market. Strome is a RFA and can be signed for one year.

no brooks asked the question and Gorton answered him. Gorton didn’t bring it up randomly before that did he?
I didn’t watch the entire interview only clips so you’re probably right

Still I think it’s trade related. It’s obvious the trade situation for Tony didn’t materialize as Gorton would like and he’s letting everyone know “yeah we have 3 great RD, we don’t have to move anyone right now”

That’s how I took it

good call. Wonder if that is what is best for Columbus or Hall?

I wouldn’t go near the kid. He’s kryptonite but I think losing Panarin they’re desperate and a guy like hall who probably normally would never go to Columbus, in these conditions may consider it

personally, i think it’s a good call for Columbus yet a bad fit with Torts. Two nice centerman up the middle yet defense first coach.

If a player has a modified NTC, that has no bearing on the Expansion Draft, does it? Would it need specific verbiage?

I can’t think of a team that would want Ryan Strome and can actually pay him
He will get rude awakening if he tests market or at least one would think. Even teams under cap are hurting for cash.
He is better off taking 4 million for a year or two and hope he gets to play with Panarin then test market when hopefully things are better.

Only teams with lots of cap space and that can't attract FAs. How many of those are out there?
And out of those how many want to spend the cash albeit I guess some of those teams have to reach the cap floor

Ottawa makes sense for Strome when you consider they A)desperately need bodies on that team and B) more likely than not could recoup at the deadline what they traded for him so it’s a wash

But I guess at that point why not just go shopping during free agency for bodies and not lose anything but money

So CBJ unloading like $10M willy nilly like they did, giving away assets for next to nothing, Hall has committed right? Ariz gave him permission to talk to teams since they weren't spending. That'll make our division tougher next year.

Nah, because CBJ is still coached by Torts. I dont think you can just swap out top-six players, subtract a whole D pairing and not have a lot of adjustment. And we all remember who sucks at adjusting.

I don’t get the Strome concern. We stand firm on the QO. He’s not gonna leave if we say no to $5M or whatever he wants. He’s not dumb. He knows if he stays another year, he’ll have another “great” season alongside Panarin thus increasing his stock.

arbitration rights

arbitration rights

if he goes to arbitration, can’t we just say no and lose him for nothing? He also knows the risk going to arbitration. He won’t hit this seasons numbers ever again and risk a bad market for him this offseason.

Vince’s podcast today talked specifically about Tony moving to the left and him feeling more and more like that will be the case. I don’t think Brooks brought it up coincidentally. I think these guys have been hearing this recently.

by the way again on Fast I believe from Gorton’s message the Rangers have made an offer it’s just not a great one and it’s up to Fast what he wants to do

I think it was fed to him to ask but to put the option out there for trade leverage. they don't want it out there that we have to move someone on the right side...they might try it if no one gets moved but I think thats the motivation right now
