okay but I was responding to the idea that Anderson is more "complete" than Buch.
He's bigger, stronger, faster and Tortsjammier than Buch. He PKs. He's more of a 'complete' package and a rare breed.

I dont know what you're arguing.

I don't think you rummage through the bargain bin and grab an aged vet on his last leg. Their production will certainly just be a continuation of the downward trend. Take a flier on someone trying to prove it that can earn another contract in 2 seasons. Capitalize on them fixing their pride. Don't fund a guy taking a last kick at the can.

to be complete you need to be good at more than a few things lol

he's definitely not faster and I've watched Anderson at least 20+ games. He's not a strong offensive player. He's definitely not a strong defensive player. He PK's i'll give you that. Other than that he's a gritty guy that scored a lot of goals one year.

Clears 4.6M for next season.

This, buying out Wennberg. CBJ clearing money for a run at Hall?
That's what it looks like to me. They have to re-sign Dubois and Gavrikov too but I think some maneuvering with Dubinsky's contract will create more room as well (LTIR?, don't know not a big CBA guy).

Koivu would be a romantic signing but the harsh reality is that he was a healthy scratch for part of the season and stuck on the fourth line of a bad hockey team. I don't think there's much left in the tank.

Borowiecki seems like a good target to me. Wallmark too.

I do get the feeling there's not going to be a huge, lucrative market for Jesper Fast and he may also find his way back to us.
Do we know if there’s a mutual interest in circling back once Fast dips-in his toe?

I didn't say he was complete... but more complete than Buch. He has more depth than Buch.

But he got 40M because he’s 6’5 and viewed as a rare power forward

strome is neither of those things and every team in the league knows he’s not very good. No one is giving him that money
Ok and they probably also think Strome is a two-way center who just scored 59 points in 70 games.

Of course it does, this guy just got $40M after scoring 1 goal, what do you think Strome is going to ask for now?
Speaking of Strome he and Anderson are actually very close in even strength points/60 over the last 3 seasons. Strome at about 1.55 and Anderson 1.51.

Strome was on the PK a lot. The team's PK last year was, uh, well...but he was definitely there. The numbers say he was one of the best ones in the group, though it's not like the goalies couldn't have randomly played better with him than they did with Howden or Lemieux.

I’d like Haula... can win faceoffs and forecheck. Would look great in the bottom 6.
I think a lot of teams will be willing to go higher than we will. Haula might be more of a TDA trade acquisition in a year or two.

e: I think Haula is in the group of players that won’t get edged out by the flat cap.

Some free agent Cs and their faceoff % last season:

Eakin 48.5%
Haula 54.1%
Wennberg 46%
Thompson 55.0%
Wallmark 50.3%
Jankowski 44.7%
Gauthier 54.7%
Grant 51.6%
At less than 1.25 I’ve take a flyer on Gauthier . Big kid , good on face offs and he and AL can reminisce about Rimouski.
