It's not ideal but it's probably one of the few ways they can shed salary quick.

If they could have gotten someone to bite on Fluery they would have much rather done that

Cap of DeAngelo + Cap of Krug > Cap of Pietrangelo.

Might want to recheck the math. They are replacing Pietrangelo with Krug on the left and moving Faulk back to the right. I could be wrong, but don’t think that’s a DeAngelo spot.

Schmidt is excellent. If I were Gorton, I'd be ringing Vegas' phone off the hook.

I don't love that idea for Vegas. Yes, Pietrangelo is better, but you're getting 20 bananas more expensive to get 5 bananas better at hockey.

Why is it assumed they're moving Schmidt? They will try everything in their ability to move MAF first, and then some excess F depth.
 
Nate Schmidt would be the picture perfect Rongo move, lmao.

That contract is just stupid. Hard pass, yes.

edit: ok, the contract is not stupid. Has modified-NTC, so I supposed he can be dealt further at any time. I just don't want to see us overpay here. Would be doing Vegas a big favor here.

The problem isn’t even the cap. The problem is the player. Pietrangelo is an all around top pair D. DeAngelo is a very similar player to Krug. St. Louis might be interested in another D but not a primary offensive threat.

You, sir, are completely correct. And that’s why I too would be blowing Vegas up to acquire Schmidt. Pietrangelo IS better, but Schmidt is younger, cheaper and the difference between the two isn’t big enough that I’d be literally going out of my way to make room to give the older guy a massive long term contract.
