Columbus is starting to churn out defense. Gavrikov made Murray pointless. They also have Kukan and Peeke that they also like on the right side. If they go after Petro it makes sense to move Savard and be cost effective on their 3rd pairing. Peeke probably has that job next season.

They could go big 3 on defense kind of like Tampa. Have them each anchor a pair and if they need to late in games run Jones and Werenski together with Petro and Gavrikov as the other pair.

but if you are looking to cut payroll then why not move anderson for futures instead of taking back an equal salary
That’s a good point. Only think I can think of is maybe the knew they would need a center where as on defense they figure they can lose a few players? Idk.
Tomorrow shaping up to be interesting.

Letting Strome walk to bank on Chytil seems like a mistake. Both for the team’s chances this year and Chytil’s development.

Don’t see better options than Strome out there for equivalent term. He seems like the perfect 1 year stopgap to me. I don’t get it.
I think you're right and I also think most people here, as well as the rangers, agree. The problem legit seems to be simply his contract.

If you want a cheap bottom6 C with speed and potential Haula is the guy.

If he’s healthy he’s a good player

He's definitely good and especially against the Rangers, for some reason. I don't think he'll be cheap though. My suspicion is he ends up getting paid middle-sixer cap - similar to Fast. Which is probably beyond our budget.

I think unless the award is for more than 4.6 million, we cannot walk. If between 4-4.6, he'll be overpaid and we'll be stuck with it. If more than 4.6, we can walk and we've lost an asset for nothing. So the only way we win is if the award is under 4 million. Threading a needle.

I think the C market opens up after the UFAs fall . They can flip Strome for a 2nd if they find a replacement

Adding to TB's problems.. besides the cap..

They have Hedman, McDonagh, Sergachev, Cernak and their top prospect Foote. They may go 4-4. Still exposing a nice asset on Defense.

I think they want to move McD but he would have to waive

If Savard was a LHD I wouldn’t mind seeing if Jarmo was willing to sell on the cheap

Yeah, I was definitely thinking the same thing. Maybe he has some issues that I have missed since I've not watched him continuously, OTOH which D don't get into problems every now and then, but he is a really strong defender in many ways. Work horse type.

Dominik Simon is another interesting name today.

Can play both wings, good defensively. Had surgery for a torn laburm in May though, 6-7 month recovery time would have him ready just in time for training camp.
