lot of good stuff here but the one point I wanted to make is on Fast.

when you listen to Gorts answer it very much sounds like an offer is on the table and it’s a take it or leave it offer and probably not for as much money or maybe term as Jesper would like. But putting it on them to answer whether he’ll be back or not tells me that very clearly.

He’s literally the exact 3C we need, very good two way guy, fluid skater, elite at zone entries, chippy, got along great with our team and is Russian
Trading him for peanuts was a real head scratcher
I just dont see him coming back here for how is time went. I know he is chippy, but he is also a little smallish for my liking and not as physical as you are making him out to be. And he is probably better suited for wing. Would be nice to have as a PKer.

I just see them going in a different direction

I'd still prefer to trade Strome for next years picks anyways. Not only does it spread out the prospects but it gives Gorton options at the deadline or next years draft.

At this point I'd probably bring back Strome on a 1 or 2 year tradeable deal and then see if I can acquire a center elsewhere in time. Strome is always flippable later.

I do find it hard to believe that a C on pace for 70 points couldn't bring back a first when I see what guys fetched at last trade deadline. There is some disconnect here.

I think if any team is expecting Wennberg to come in and put up 50 points that is setting themselves up for disappointment. He's comfortably at 30-35 points a season more than likely with very good defensive play. That's valuable as a 3rd liner, specifically at center.

He could be a good pick-up on a short deal. He's said to have a very good defensive game, but absolutely frustrating with the puck... just refuses to shoot... often times from prime areas. You start to question why sometimes. He put up the points because that year CLB had a top PP. They used PP specialists on the 4th line. Gagner and Hartnell did a lot of damage, and they had Wennberg and Gagner act as the primary playmakers.

That said... as a grinder... and a center, he could be important cog to a team that has trouble protecting leads, but you have to re-mold him into a role like the depth pieces you see on a team like Boston.

As far as the numbers go, I would take Riley Nash over him and so would CLB. If you are looking for a UFA center for the type of role that a Wennberg could fit, I would rather sign Mikko Koivu on a 1 year deal.

My gut feeling is that SJ tries to convert Donato into a center. CBJ got great value in Domi, and Vegas locks up Stephenson. I'd be more interested in seeing if there are other players like them for the Rangers to acquire via trade.

i want to see what Chytil is at 21 with star wingers next to him before I spend any real money outside the org
thats going in looking to fail. What happens if it doesn't work?

There's nothing stopping Chytil playing with good wingers, even with Cirelli on the team. If he can then learn or imitate what/how Zibs and Cirelli play the game, that'd be even better.
