I’m torn on Wennberg. Defensively it’s a no brainer. Offensively he had treaded down these last couple years. We don’t necessarily need a monster offensive C but still. I’m ok with it since it will be a cheap contract since he was bought out .

I'd still want to upgrade at 2C and maybe move to Chytil to the W, but I like that C depth

We don't need him to be a monster offensive center. We need him to be a dependent 3C who can play on the second PP unit. Brassard played a similar role on our 2013-14 team. If the cost isn't prohibitive, I'd be interested for sure.

He's a nice stopgap but I'd rather go hard for a guy like Cirelli instead who will be here longterm

The only issue with Wennberg is he will probably be overpaid by a team that thinks he can refind his offense. In reality, the offense was never there. He just had one year with at on of PP points. He has never been a good 5v5 scorer. He's been fine to adequate but nowhere close to a 2C quality there.

So I thought just for fun, I'd put together a deal where we took on Fleury and picked up some extra assets...

I don't know how I feel about this trade from the Rangers side of things, but I think adding Glass, Krebs and a 1st would boost our system even more and seems worth it taking on half of Fleury's contract to do so.

Wennberg could be a real useful depth player for this team as long as his contract demands are in line. He'd also get the opportunity to play with a VERY good group of wingers more than likely. I could see that being attractive for him on a 1-2 year deal to rebuild his value a bit.

Yeah I think the trouble with Wennberg is there will likely be a contender or two in the market for him. Unless we offer him term we might not be a preferred destination.

I could live with wennberg as a stop gap if necessary but I don’t see what others do in him. Sounds like there’s going to be competition for him though so he’s likely to get overpaid in money or term or both. Pass.
