I’m fine with it. I’m not even a big Strome guy

but it provides cover for the kids to develop. I think Strome is overrated but it’s fine for 2 years. It’s the kind of contract you sign when the roster is In transition and you can’t bet everything on a bunch of 19-21 year olds jumping big.

Exactly. I don't think anyone believes he is the long term answer for this team, but 2 years or less...hes fine.

Fair deal for Strome. You have to really hate him to think it's a bad deal. He's not a favorite of mine, but for a mid 6 center it's an appropriate deal.

The Strome saga is finally over along with the US election[maybe]....AWESOME and Tony deactivated.....all in 24 hours...simply amazing . Going to be nothing on here to read between now and the start of the next season....Lafreniere for Team Canada !!!

It is now seems pretty unlikely that we sign a Haula / Granlund / Soderberg, unless any of them are willing to go something like 2m.

Bad number.

Strome handled the Rangers. They wanted to move him (or at least very actively explored it). They clearly didn’t want to give him this kind of money. He wouldn’t cave on lower offers, put in a high arbitration request and on the morning of the case, the Rangers knew there was a possibility he’d get awarded an even higher number, and while they could walk away, they would have a hole to fill, so the Rangers caved. Well played by Strome’s side.

4.5M isn’t bad for what Strome did last year, even though I feel his production is something of a paper tiger and even at 65 points he’s a lacking player. Reminds me of PA Parenteau. But regardless, 4.5M isn’t terrible. I am hoping we are able to upgrade and move on before the second year. I also think Strome would have struggled to find even 4x1 if he’d hit the open market.

Bad deal. I see no reason to do this over just going to arbitration and taking the 1 year award whatever it would be.

It’s a Bozak number for a Bozak-level C, which is on the overpriced side.

Why wouldnt he? Does he have a choice? Are teams banging down his door right now to at least match last year’s salary, which was while being with an underwhelming Nashville team that was mediocre vs expectations? Some, in fact most of the guys remaining, will be taking a pay cut whether they like it or not.

And why are we assuming someone else cant replicate the success Strome has had with Panarin? Panarin is a Hart Tropht candidate. Granlund is no slouch.

$4.5 or more and I am walking away from Strome. You can better spend that money elsewhere and even save some possibly. Strome wouldnt get more than $4.25 on the open market. Maybe not even more than $4 million. Yea $500k is a significant amount of cap space in this unstable economic climate right now. Plus I would rather have that extra space at the trade deadline just in case.

Certainly have changed your tone

If any of that first paragraph were the case, they would have done 1 year at a higher number if needed or walked. The second year tells me they wanted him back. It also tells me they probably used a potential trade to lower his asking price. It's no secret he wanted to stay here.

Or the second year at that number was something Strome valued and required to forego arbitration, so he can go to UFA with less of a flukey, Panarin-inflated reputation around the league.

Unless he pressed for the second year because he knows he needs the security, and the Rangers have no guarantees they’ll be able to upgrade or have an internal solution, so the second year is security for them as well. If he has another good year with Panarin, the second year won’t hurt his value at the TDL or draft either.

Gorton did well with the Deangelo and Strome deals, i had them potentially hitting 10 mill between them, came in at 700,000 less than that.

Wow you sure are back tracking haha
What am I back tracking on? All I said was that there was a possibility the Rangers could walk away... meaning there was a possibility they could sign him. What is hard about this for you? You must really need this message board in your life to spin everything into how right you are. It really is sad. I have also said that I thought the Rangers submission for arbitration would have been $3.85 AAV, higher than what they actually submitted, meaning I acknowledged that a settlement would definitely be in the $4-$4.75 range.

But hey continue to pat yourself on the back, someone’s gotta do it for ya.

He will never make the end of the 2 year deal in new york unless he blows the doors off us, same as Deangelo.
