Does this seem like something likely to continue? Does it seem at all likely to you he will have another season where his on ice shooting percentage (12.21) is greater than any full season of Sidney Crosby, Nikita Kucherov, Alex Ovechkin, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Patrick Kane, Leon Draisaitl, Joe Thornton (2007+), and all but one season of Evgeni Malkin? No? Then why are we possibly being so lazy as defining pace as Points/game*82 and assuming it is something that is meaningful?

Because it's a gamble they won't take in a critical year of the franchise for a couple hundred thousand of cap space they dont need.

Hate to break it to ya but this is a rebuild year IMO. They likely miss the playoffs and then load up next year when a bunch of money is off the cap

Does JD not essentially say that ? Taking about all the kids in camp after this year

Its not a rebuild year, its a continue to build year, but they had a taste of playoffs, taking a step backwards really isn't what we need to be doing at this point. Its critical to continue to move forward, this year should be about legitimately making playoffs, not sitting outside of it.

Sign Strome and move him at the deadline or at a point when we have somebody feasible to replace him at little cost to the club via money or surrounding player performance. In that period of time somebody might cook some more....something of interest elsewhere may be become available that suits our roster planning better both on ice and dollar wise .....and /or an individual from within our own organization breaks out to assume the C role that Strome performs ....at least we recoup some sort of an asset in a trade at some point versus letting him walk for nothing .

Yup brooks just reported they agreed on something.

guess he’ll be back I can’t imagine for more than a year

He won't, he asked for a 5.7 knowing full well he isn't getting it, he goes high, they go low, most times these things fall in the middle somewhere. I think it will land between 4.5 and 5. Been saying it all along that Strome and Deangelo would cost us around 10 mill between them. The Deangelo contract is good, i expect this to be similar. Splitting the difference between the offers lands it at 4.65.

Boom!!!! 4.5 x 2. Nailllllled it

I’m fine with it. I’m not even a big Strome guy

but it provides cover for the kids to develop. I think Strome is overrated but it’s fine for 2 years. It’s the kind of contract you sign when the roster is In transition and you can’t bet everything on a bunch of 19-21 year olds jumping big.
Totally.
