For shits and giggles... how would folks react to a trade involving Rangers and the Caps, something around TDA or Buch for McMichael. Buddy and I were talking about wanting to see Lundqvist win a cup and wanting Gorton to help make that happen and it was something that didn't sound too far off although we were both a little inebriated , lol.

Why the hell would Gorton want to help the Caps? Fans of the Rangers really need to let Hank go. What happens happens but actively wanting to bolster his team? Please stop.

Washington doesn't have the cap space. They'll have Kempny on LTIR to start the season, but they are already using a little over 1 mil of that space. They have about 1.5 mil left, and only 11 forwards, so obviously that space will be used for a cheap 12th forward and injury call ups. Buchnevich at 50% retained might be doable for them if they sent back a contract as well like Hathaway. Or ADA at 50% and take back Jensen. Neither of those scenarios if very appealing though, as both players have 3 years left on their deals, and Washington won't have the cap space to re-sign Buch or ADA next year, unless they let Ovi or Vrana walk.

Step away from the ledge son.
Two people having some drinks and talking hockey. Not much more than that.

Normally it would be pretty meaningless, but it's pretty significant this year. If they end up walking away, Strome can treat their ask as a binding offer. And yeah, that's a low number.

At this point in free agency, I wonder if he would just accept the 3.6 if the Rangers walk from whatever arbitration gives him.

No one is giving him a long term deal, so why not take the 1 year, play with great players again, and then give free agency another shot next season.

Is it a lowball? A career 35 point player who had a good season with an MVP finalist, and in this FA environment?

And the other side of that is the MVP finalist had a career year playing with him.

If the arbitrator splits the difference, the Rangers can't walk away.

EDIT: Wrong, disregard.

To be fair, it's definitely a lowball. But that's also how arbitration goes. And given all the context of literally everything, it makes sense for the Rangers to offer that

Strome is easily my least favorite player on this team but even I am going to admit he deserves at least 4 million for this deal

So yes the team is lowballing him
