If it’s from Ottawa it better be their second rounder. Even if he is awarded 4.5 we can afford that for a year or two. I still would like to start Chytil at 3C this year and ease him into 2c following year
even if we made trades for 3 centers before tuesday, you still qualify strome and then trade him
Just trying to be objective and see it from the other side but of course they asked for first overall, Chytil and probably Miller and maybe another roster player
Larry's just trying to generate drama in an otherwise quiet news period. I'm sure the Rangers have a number of options lined up, none of which involve letting Strome walk away for free unless they're absolutely certain it's a necessity to do so.
not really worth much of anything without any names...if its legit names might leak later. I mean we can probably guess at the names JD & JG would say no to but not really how crazy the asking potentially was.
But what if the rest of the league has his number? ~4 million is a lot for a player like Strome if you don’t also have a Panarin on your roster for him to put up decent numbers with.
Why are the Sabres trying to trade for Jack Eichel? Not a good look for the new GM if he doesn't even know Eichel already plays for Buffalo.

If I was running the Sabres I would ask for Lafreniere. The Ranger want Eichel and Buffalo knows it.

Sabres would be dumb to trade a player locked up. If losing means he wants out, that's another story. If that's the case...
McDavid should be available soon to.
Barkov as well.. FLA might see the writing on the wall with him and pre-emptively move him. You'd get much more for Barkov this offseason.

Not qualifying Strome makes no sense. At a 1-year deal what is the risk?

There seems to be a decent amount of smoke there and the team he’s linked with seems to be jettisoning cap like it’s a full time job.
Talk about non qualifying Strome could be a signal to the league about how available he is. If they are this serious then there have to be other things going on and that involves acquiring a replacement and weaponizing all of this cap space they suddenly have. Very interesting.
btw not sure if this has been mentioned in all the Eichel talk (I tend to black out reading some of the comments lol) but looking at Eichel's contract...he has 2 bonuses thru the contract. 7/1/20 the sabres just paid him a $7.5 mil bonus leaving him with only $2.5 mil salary for this season. so i'd guess that the sabres would need to be blown away by an offer to move him this offseason when they have already paid 75% of his salary for the year (and would get zero credit toward their cap if he's moved)...
then next year he just gets a straight $10 mil salary...then the next key date is 7/1/22. On 7/1/22 he is owed another $7.5 mil bonus AND his NMC kicks in...which btw is also the day Mika and Barkov become a UFA if not extended first.
That is probably when Eichel gets traded if it happens...he'll be in buffalo this year, and then the following year assuming the sabres are still trash, they will potentially trade him at the deadline to avoid paying that bonus and before his NMC kicks in. Maybe next summer cause his value is higher the more years left on his contract. but this year would be a tough sell to management since they already paid him.
