That means getting harder to play against ... Maroon , Goodrow, Coleman

From theRFAs only DiG not a qualify option right ?

Could be some of the AHL guys too. Gropp and Fontaine are RFAs and I'm not sure either gets qualified.

Yup. I would keep Digi. He can do a good job as a depth player. Very solid 13th-14th option on a deep team.

With Lafreniere coming and hopefully someone at 22 that will contribute 2-3 years I’m just hoping JG stays patient. No long term big money deals even if we do need a LHD with some experience. We just need to get better next year we don’t have to win the cup

Patient is a word used by J.D. so there is hope.

we can (obviously) debate if they are worth their new deals or better used as trades but I'm not sure how there is any discussions about qualifying offers on the NHL rfas...besides strome, they all made under $1 mil. and strome at $3.2 mil to be the 2C is extremely cheap...there is zero chance you don't qualify them. none of them make enough even with a flat cap to even consider it.

so the decisions might be about the minor league guys

Good for Kevin b/c he won the Cup. i’m no fan of Pierre McGwire selling us the sympathy story (taking shots at the Rangers) and Kevin eating it up. If you get dumped by a girl and she’s happy for you on your wedding day you don’t need to remind everybody at the reception the day you got dumped.

I think the turn-off for a little of people was the whoa is me shit, especially when there's a lot to be said for the belief that he didn't put in the work he should've.

Very excited to watch the Rangers get rid of Staal’s bad contract and immediately hand Jesper one
Am I the only one who doesn’t like Fast? The guy has hands of stone, I can’t count the number of times he was parked right in front of the net and it was wide open but he missed because he can hardly raise the puck. Offence dies on his stick, and he’s the one guy whenever he gets a breakaway and I look up and notice oh it’s just Fast LOL he’s not scoring, he’s the least dangerous guy on the team offensively

Would 3x3 be bad for Fast? Maybe a 4th year ? I just don’t want a bunch of 19/20 year olds playing in our bottom 6
I would be OK with 3X3. And I would do that with the assumption and and agreement that he will be in the bottom six sooner rather than later.

I do have to wonder if Fast could get more money/years somewhere else if he hits the open market.

Yeah exactly, and I think they clear quite a few. Gropp, Dawson, Crawley. Think it's worth keeping Raddysh. Maybe you try to re-sign an O'Regan who is a good AHL body.

I think within the question of whether or not to QO someone, there are the related options of multiyear extensions or trade. I read it that way.

Rangers peeps are fairly quite right now, which usually means they are deep into two things:

Evaluating talent (their own and the draft), and/or engaged in longer conversations with other teams.

In this case, I believe it's both.
Could you please expand on the latter? Certainly the draft board is already finalized by now and we obviously know we're taking Laf at 1 (assuming no mega offer comes in at the final hour)?

If Nashville's clearing out space, maybe you for a depth piece like Grimaldi. Cheap 4th line option, not going to cost you a $3M contract over term.

Obviously we don't know what other moves Gorton will make, but as it stands, we already have the top 9 set:

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Laf-Chytil-Gauthier

If we re-sign Fast, that means he's either an expensive 4th liner, or we're pushing Gauthier down to the 4 line, and I don't see the point of that. We traded for him to be a goal scorer, and he isn't going to become that on the 4th line.

If we end up trading Buch, that could change the dynamic, but Fast might be a luxury we can't afford.
