I was responding to @smoneil 's lineup that was missing Strome (without any details) and added Girgensons as a "replacement". Otherwise a cheap UFA who takes some defensive responsibilities while making our bottom-6 deeper would be a good add.

I don't see Strome as a long-term top 6 center. No defense to his game and I think Chytil is ready. We have plenty of powerplay options, but our PK options are scarce. I'd trade Strome for the best return we can get.

Correct. They are potential components in any deal as well.

I also would not be shocked if both teams have at least mentioned swapping firsts.

Do you get a sense that Calgary is more likely to prefer moving Monahan than Lindholm?

Before everyone jumps off a cliff on Hanifin, remember that a year ago you couldn’t have pried him out of Calgary. He had a very good season in 2018-19, not so good last year. This is when you look to buy. A bit of a gamble? What trades aren’t?
I'd gamble on his upside vs. Buch's future with the team. And I think Buch is going to have a huge season.

Good for Kevin b/c he won the Cup. i’m no fan of Pierre McGwire selling us the sympathy story (taking shots at the Rangers) and Kevin eating it up. If you get dumped by a girl and she’s happy for you on your wedding day you don’t need to remind everybody at the reception the day you got dumped.

Well this is where context is key my guy. In the sporting world getting a huge contract from your childhood team only to have it bought out less than halfway through must be embarrassing and humiliating for the guy, probably made him question his own ability and affected his self-esteem. So yeah in the context of hockey I'm sure it was crappy for him and probably a motivator for him on the ice and in the training room.

He was interviewing the dude about his own personal journey, of course it's relevant.... I really don't see the issue, it's not like they made a big deal and compared it to real life struggles like you seemed to, it's just the context of Shatts hockey journey from his lowest point of his professional career to his highest. It's a good story and very relevant.

What would Hanafin cost?
What would Hanafin + Monahan cost?
I'm open to both if it makes sense. But I don't want to do it just to make a trade.
Buch for Hanafin?

Here's how I'm trying to put prior discussions together:

1. Strome to Ottawa for two 2nds, one of which to recoup pick we loss moving Staal (maybe), the other - in play
2. Then ADA plus one of these 2nds (or both) to Calgary for Hanifin and Monahan

Am I the only one who doesn’t like Fast? The guy has hands of stone, I can’t count the number of times he was parked right in front of the net and it was wide open but he missed because he can hardly raise the puck. Offence dies on his stick, and he’s the one guy whenever he gets a breakaway and I look up and notice oh it’s just Fast LOL he’s not scoring, he’s the least dangerous guy on the team offensively

Hes no offensive dynamo but hes still a 30 point player, all of which are even strength. He does the dirty work that helps the more offensive minded players have the puck on their stick more and gives them more room to work with.

With our current level of offensive talent I think hes a perfect fit if the contract makes sense.

Buchnevich is almost guaranteed to be in the deal, as Calgary has been interested in him for the past two trade deadlines, as per our board source.

Are you serious? That’s a ridiculous overpayment for the 8th pick Jesus.

what do you think those players get you. DeAngelo gets a 20ish 1st at best, Buch and Georgiev get a second each. That basically is 1(8) and #2 in 21.

I just did a search on Monahan and the first item that came up is should the Flames give up Monahan for Dumba, since they have interest in Dumba, which tells me they're looking for a young RD. I guess this begs the question if the Flames are also interested in DeAngelo.
ADA for either Lindholm or for Monahan is leaving value on the table. Adding Hanfin doesn’t pull that over the line. We’d be taking on ~10 or 11 million annually, only marginally addressing two needs, and would give up the best player in the deal. That doesn’t sound like JG to me.

If ADA and Strome net us (fairly long term) solutions at LD and 2C it's hard not to pull the trigger.

To Calgary:
Strome/Buch
ADA
Andersson
22nd Overall

To Rangers:
Monahan
Hanafin
19th Overall

This seems like a real hockey trade, not the fantasy stuff that goes on most of the time where one team gets great players and the other gets trash. There are some good things and some question marks going both ways. Makes sense.

Hanafin has every measurable yoou're looking for in a Defenseman. Still only 23 which is extremely green for defensemen.

It's a position swap for ADA at this point.

That would make the most sense...maybe the Rangers add Hajek and the Flames add a later pick. Strome is likely headed out for picks.

Add Hajek and maybe the Rangers get back into the second round this year.

I mean Treliving has shown he isn't afraid of big deals but that is a lot of parts.
