I gotta say. (I’m in the roster building thread now right??) Im thrilled.

I’m not sad hank is leaving. I loved him I’m excited to celebrate his jersey retirement. but his time was over years ago. I said during the end of the Ottawa series we would not make the playoffs again wirh Henrik Lundqvist as our starter.

I’m a Rangers fan first and him leaving makes us ALOT better. I’m excited for Shesterkin to take over here. I’m excited for Lafreniere I’m excited for a new voice in the locker room. Maybe a C given out now. Let’s go!

I'm not sad in terms of what it means for this team going forward, but I'm sad that he wasn't able to get over the hump with the Rangers and win the cup and sad for all of the memories etc.

It's possible to be multiple things at once! Moving on is the correct move, but it brings with it feelings of nostalgia and such as well

Sigh with the Eichel stuff. We waited a while to acquire this much youth, and before we even know what we have, it’s trade it all away for another big name.

the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Where would you like all this youth to play? A lot of it is on the wings too. Chytil is still TBD as being a Center in the NHL, he might end up a winger as well.

Not every Prospect is going to make the team. Some you will have to move to fill a hole. And our biggest hole is the center position. Every Cup team has high end centers to win with. They have at least one elite center and one very good center, typically. You cant prospect hug. The point of acquiring and building all these young assets its to put yourself in a position to be able to pivot in any direction at any point.

He had the chance @Levitate when we had Nasher - Rick Nash.
I watch soccer now, Real Madrid & Milan, I cant watch Wild hockey too sad, but miss Rangers too.

Could also be that in trade talks they caught wind of more teams in financial trouble than expected and they're expecting a lot more players to hit the open market through buyouts or not getting QO's.

Could be doing a "reverse Staal" deal.

Lots of options.
That's what I'm hoping. Many teams are up against the cap and now that the Rangers have room we can pluck someone off a roster for cheap who would normally be unavailable or relieve cap space and get a good asset in return.

I cant imagine it is barkov, would you want two elite centers entering ufa the same summer?

Yeah definitely more of a dream but who says they would both make it to FA if that type of trade went down? I'd imagine we'd be locking him up and know it before hand.

It also makes me drool to think about the possibility of Eichel playing with some real talent with the Rangers compared to his supporting cast right now. He wouldn't have the weight of the world off his shoulders here, he may not even slot in at our #1 C. I tend to think Zibby is currently the better player at this point in time.

The Eichel to NYR links make sense. David Quinn was his coach at BU. He knows the player well. The Rangers are on an upward trajectory. Eichel wants to win. With Panarin, Lafreniere, Kakko, and Zibanejad also on the team, he doesn't have to be "the guy", even if it seems that he has the personality that he would bask in the opportunity under the big city lights.

Bobby Mac always gets good nuggets pertaining to NYR rumors. He always knows who the Rangers are taking in the draft a minute before they go to the podium. This nugget with Eichel and many others before. He has a source in the Rangers organization that is high up there. That being said, I wonder if Bobby Mac's Rangers source leaked the Eichel stuff on purpose to get another team to lower their ask on another center, as if to say "we have other options here". This screams Barkov to me, and frankly, I'm for it. Both Eichel and Barkov are stars, but Barkov is absolutely more of a need for the roster composition and make up of this team. It's an open secret that Florida was hemorrhaging money pre-COVID. I can't imagine now.

I feel weirdly hesitant about Eichel. Just really not sure if it's the right move...I dunno why exactly. Part of me wonders if there's some of those BS "character concern" type things going on in my head, how much of the issues in Buffalo had to do with him as well? The fact that even though he's a star player, he's had trouble staying healthy and hasn't put up quite what I'd consider truly elite numbers.
What would be the cost, what would be the effect on the team the Rangers are trying to build?
Not sure it is too "weird". I just have the feeling that this is not the right time or the right player. He is a wonderful player, but not what the Rangers need to take their next step. There are other roster needs. The team is still developing an identity.

Add to that that Staal and Henke were huge voices in the room. This could be too much change.

In two years time, I hope we can be where COL is right now. A team that is almost there, super young, and with a ton of cap space available to help get them over the top. We need to be really smart about how we use our cap space right now. Stay away from long-term commitments unless the deal is too good to pass up. I expect some bargain bin shopping to help bolster the lineup a bit and obtain the necessary exposures needed for the expansion draft. Maybe you pull the trigger on a bigger deal, but cap in needs to equal cap out (again, unless the deal is too good to pass up).

I'm not worried about the dead cap this season. Not in the least. Most of it has been added since "the letter," so clearly this was part of the plan to use the space when we weren't going to need it. It's part of the rebuild.
In two years time I hope we are better than where COL is. I'd take Zib, Panarin, Kakko, Laf, Fox, ADA, our pipeline, Igor over Nate, Gabe, Miko, Makar, Byram, their pipeline.

From 31T:

”As Chicago celebrated in 2010, they knew it would be the last time they’d be together. Some of that exists with this edition of the Lightning, too. It sounds like GM Julien Brisebois has done a lot of the internal legwork already, knowing which players are (or are not) willing to waive no-move or no-trade protection. (Several have indicated they prefer not to.)

The Lightning are not satisfied with one win — they want to maintain themselves for a shot at more. Expect Brisebois to think unconventionally. I think teams will ask if Sergachev wants a bigger role. He’s on the left side with Hedman and McDonagh.”

It's certainly possible. I don't see them taking on a pure cap dump necessarily but could be some teams in cap trouble who are willing to sell a guy cheap who can actually play. Maybe even chip in another asset to make it more enticing.

What would our PP look if we had Eichel? We'd have two #1 units. Even this year, if some of our younger guys take steps forward our #2 unit will be better than some teams #1 unit.

I don't believe they could negotiate the deal now, I think it has to wait until next offseason, but someone else cant jump in that knows for sure. That would be a turnoff for me right there with the uncertainty.

Uh, you do realize the big name is a little less than 24 years old, right?

Uhh you do realize a) the amount of resources it would take to acquire him (Kiss one of Kakko or Lafreniere goodbye) and b) the cap space he would command thus making us a team with how much of our cap tied into 4 players?

Does everyone see what is going on with the Toronto Maple Leafs right now but just choose to ignore it?

Sergachev would be priority A, B, and C for me this offseason if he were available.

ah yes, lets tie up the majority of our cap space in 4 players, cause that’s worked so well for Toronto.

There is a history between TB and NYR making moves. Tampa HAS to make a trade or 2 to re-sign Cirelli and Sergachev if that is the route they want to go down. Some one or some ones are on their way out.

Is there a deal to be made? If so, here is the order of players that I would like to see on NYR:

1) Sergachev
2) Cirelli
3) Johnson
4) Stamkos

All 4 of those would fill one of the 2 holes the NYR have nicely, would just depend on acquisition cost for each.

Roast me....

If we move on from Strome I'd be more comfortable taking on Statsny and we could either get a pick or player to relieve Vegas. Before getting rid of Staal and Hank I wouldn't have entertained anything like that. Help mentor Chytil a little bit then Fil jumps to 2C during the season.

Miller, Kravstov & protected 2021 first for Johnson & Sergachev.

Miller can probably slot in on their 3rd pairing LD right now with sheltered minutes. He's on an ELC so it saves them cap vs Serg. We take a flyer on Johnson who probably has negative value right now, he's a center and we can try him out with our top 6.

Serg slots right into our top pairing and is a force for the next decade+ for the NYR.
