I'm not trading 1OA for Dahlin.

I certainly would. Dahlin is legitimately exceptional. He had 44 points as an 18 year old rookie and 40 in 59 games last season (56 point pace). He’s still 20 for the entirety of next season. He’s the next Hedman and likely out producing what Lafreniere will do in his first two years as a teenage defender.

Perhaps he could have worded that far differently. He could've just kept it as:

"From what I've heard, Eichel doesn't want to leave and Buffalo doesn't want to trade him, though teams have inquired about him."

Same message, far less cryptic and ominous.

Perhaps, but I feel like no matter what, you end up getting pushback.

Go too vague and people say you didn't share anything at all or that you talk in riddles.

Get too specific and you're making people panic and causing angst.

Do nothing and they claim you didn't know at all.

I think Bob is at least past the point of caring what people say or how they react to the information he's willing to share.

I know some people will scoff at this (especially outside of this board) but ADA is a really solid first piece in an Eichel deal that many teams would be hard pressed to match. Who else can afford to shuttle out a player who just had the kind of season he did with multiple RFA years remaining? I'd have to imagine that in the vast majority of orgs around the league ADA would be viewed as near untouchable right now.

Yup.

ADA is undervalued here.

A 60 point 25 year old RD?

That's a top, top piece.

Many teams out there cannot produce even one chip that good that is disposable to them.

We have others we can include too, and not miss a beat to our long term core. Next year suffers a bit, sure, but overall, we are just fine. Strome, Buch, multiple firsts, other defensive prospects, even Chytil. Any of those guys are on the table (though not all).

Lafreniere and Kakko would be off. Kravtsov would be nearly off the table, but maybe on if he substantially reduced what else was heading out the door.

With that structure I have full confidence we could beat any other offer in the league. The question is, does Buffalo simply reject any offer that doesn't have Lafreniere or Kakko? That's their prerogative. But if they are in a "trade him or he's gonna make a problem," situation, our offer wins, even sans Kakko and Lafreniere.

And as I said, yes, I would include Mika, if the deal was heavily centered around him (ie, still no Kakko, Lafreniere, or Kravtsov - and I'd probably then also pull Chytil off the table. So now we are talking about Mika/ADA and small sweeteners -- I might also want some spare pieces back then too).

Right now, I would keep an eye out for the teams we've discussed --- San Jose and Calgary especially.
Can you drop some tidbits on the sharks again? I am well versed in the Flames info, but lacking sorely on the Sharks

I don't know why the explosion- sounds to me like if this was a thing to happen it would happen later. Teams put in phone calls about players all the time. If Buffalo isn't actively shopping him it would probably take a pretty big overpayment from NYR (Not ADA Chytil and 22) to get him.

Not yet. I think if that was on the table, they would probably have a deal closer by now.
And people thought the talbot return sucked lol

I feel we’re probably gonna end up on the losing side of a Georgie trade if it goes down based on everything I’ve seen

From a cap/value perspective, Eichel would probably cost us Zib and Kreider.

I'm sure it still pisses him off on some level. But you just smile and move along.

He's been progressively coming across as more and more zen over the years. At least that's the way it seems with his public persona. If that's not just an act, I'd be surprised if it even pisses him off on any level.

Or his salary comes from what you saved with Staal, what you save on ADA going the other way, and moving Strome for the picks that no one thinks the Rangers would move him for.

And suddenly those ELC's for Lafreniere, Kakko, Lundkvist, Shesterkin, etc. all start to come into focus.

Eichel is talented. There is no doubt. But it would take some magic for us to make that cap hit work. I can't imagine what a package would look like and would assume that Kakko would have to be going the other way. Strome too for cap purposes. So Kakko + Strome and then keep adding?

I dunno. He and Zibanejad would be a killer 1-2 punch.

Aside from the fact that Shesterkin's 2nd contract is coming very soon.

Meh.

My entire adult conceptualization of this team has been driven by goalie and defense with underpowered forwards.

Nope. I want Lafreniere. And Kakko.

I'm not trading any star players on ELC for Eichel. Regardless of what fair value is, thats just not good cap management. We'd be too top heavy.

The only way to make it work is to end Strome/DeAngelo packing, and add whatever preposterous amount of value it might take on top of them to get the deal done.

Different situations

Rich Nash was how old when he got traded here, Eichel is turning 24 in a month

Nash was what, 27?

It's different, but not "empty your cupboard," different.

The bottom line is, if Buffalo wants that level of package, they aren't getting it, so they'll just keep him.

Any realistic offer from another team, we can probably beat without offering Lafreniere and Kakko.

I mean, I don't see NJ offering Hughes and Hischier.

About a year ago he got an email from some asshat who asked him if his sons had cancer as a result of all the "radioactive bullshit he was posting."

A popular female reporter recently recieved an email insinuating that her head wasn't on straight and what she was reporting was inaccurate because her sex life was lacking.

The stories I could share with this board about what some reporters deal with in the age of social media would make you wonder why anyone willingly does this.

Zen is hard to achieve.
