From that list that a poster put out of potential bottom line guys, I think the Rangers would go for Simmonds. He will probably be the cheapest and could be the most utilitarian of all the players and he has played in the division for a long time so the team knows him. Doubt the rangers make a move like that this offseason though with the tight cap.

Can we get a true checking 4th line? I dont think playing Mika 26 min a night is sustainable for both his health and longevity.

Fast is more than likely gone, so who does that leave for PK.

Lemiuex, Howden, Ziba...

Do we try Kaako in that role? Chytil? Gauthier?

Chytil saw time on the PK in the play-in series against Carolina, so I would think that’s a consideration going forward.

I like Simmonds, he’s a couple of things but I wouldn’t use the word utilitarian to describe him. He’s fairly one dimensional but a good add perhaps. He’s no Mr. Versatility.

If there's any truth to the idea that Boston and Vancouver are talking Carlo I wonder if that would make them a surprise player for DeAngelo. He's always seemed like a guy I could see in a Bruins jersey.

Boston nothing that interests me for Tony though

I guess what I was trying to say was that if he needed to move up in the lineup, or take some time on the PP in front of the net, he can fill in like that for a time. And he is the kind of tough I think the team is looking for. Not just a goon, but tough to play against. We will see though.

Simmonds is cooked.

He's a PTO level guy.

Especially if they don't bring Krug back.

I like a number of their prospects but outside of Studnicka I put them in the Krebs category: Like them but not enough as a centerpiece. Could be the type of deal that fills 2 or 3 holes in the lineup but no single piece ever reaches the same sort of stature as DeAngelo himself.

I really like Simmonds and but I think he really wants the biggest role he can get and I don't want to give it to him because he's not good anymore.

Simmonds is a guy Rangers could have used 7 years ago. i don't know if he declined or just bad luck with injuries. I mean is only 32 and not 37. i would give him a show me type deal. he would be a good mentor for the kids. he'd prolly take that deal from a top team like Vegas or the Avs. unless he wants to stay east.

Apart from Studnicka, I think Beecher would come to mind with a lot of adds but I don't think Boston offers a lot as far as prospects. Can't see Studnicka or even Vaakanainen being moved... assuming they'll need them for cap purposes down the road.

Yeah and that's the hurdle. If Studnicka and Vaakanainen are taken off the table there's really nothing that provides the upside I'd want. Frederic, Lauko, and Beecher are all decent prospects but definitely not key pieces in a DeAngelo trade. DeBrusk is out there but that seems like an odd fit unless the Rangers are definitely moving Buchnevich and they're penciling Kreider in on the right-side or the think DeBrusk himself can play the right.

I think DeBrusk has played the right quite a bit.
