Yeah and that's the hurdle. If Studnicka and Vaakanainen are taken off the table there's really nothing that provides the upside I'd want. Frederic, Lauko, and Beecher are all decent prospects but definitely not key pieces in a DeAngelo trade. DeBrusk is out there but that seems like an odd fit unless the Rangers are definitely moving Buchnevich and they're penciling Kreider in on the right-side or the think DeBrusk himself can play the right.
Agreed. I don't see Boston as a likely trading partner for any player we might move. I think we have to assume that if TDA goes it would be for help at 2C or LD.

If Wennberg gets bought out by Columbus, do we take a chance on him? He was 25 during the normal buyout period, so I'm assuming the 1/3rd buyout applies (CapFriendly still has it as 1/3rd), which is why they might do it. He just turned 26 yesterday.

Would really depend on the trade market for Strome as well as the cost of keeping him in the fold.

We tried with Ville Meskanen and Lindqvist pretty recently, they didn't quite make it. I guess it's true that between those kinds of signings, college free agents, veterans making the minimum and late round draft picks we should be doing better with finding NHL depth players than we are. But even with the structural advantages of being the Rangers and having a big budget, not everyone is going to be MZA, Hayes or Georgiev
Both Meskanen and Lindqvist were undrafted and therefore more raw finds. That doesn't have a lot to do with known quantities like Puljujarvi and Nattinen.

It would also depend on how the team views Chytil. If they see his trajectory as more than just a 3C this season, say even a 2B, then going for someone else on shorter deal like a Granlund, Turris or Wennberg could make sense as their contracts should be in the 1-2 year range and the cap hits should be manageable even if they settle into that 3C role.

Possibly but I don't think that's a certainty. If the Rangers make a real attempt to improve their LD this offseason they start the clock on trading DeAngelo regardless of the market because of the expansion draft. Say the Rangers have the option to move Buchnevich for Nurse or Klefbom. Both of those guys require protection. So that kind of changes the dynamic of what they might be willing to do with DeAngelo. Maybe that opens up a deal for a shorter term option at RW and a higher-end C prospect. Of course it's not something you have to address immediately but all of these potential trades are linked in some way or another.

That'll certainly be a factor but Granlund isn't a center. I suppose they could give it a shot just to see if it works but signing him with the goal of him playing center would be a mistake.

rather keep Strome over Wennberg. Wennberg is a 4th line. not a 2ed line forward. would be a huge mistake to give him those minutes but if he wants to sign here to be 4th line forward and PK to replace Fast than I am all for it.

Rangers need a center. perfect time to bring in Jarkko Immonen back at 38 years old. it is a shame he did not want an NHL career. he could have worked on his skating. . maybe he improved his skating by now. Lias Andersson will have the same type of career. :sarcasm::naughty::help:
I think Pashnin would look interesting paired with Trouba.

Granlund isn't nearly as good as a Center, seriously go ask a large majority of fans from the last 2 teams he played on or just go to the freakin' main board thread about him to get some of their takes there

I'm reading people being pissy about losing Lemieux? He is a nice player to have in the bottom 6, but we are not in the stages of cementing our bottom 6. That kind of stuff will work itself out. If you're getting bent about losing Lemieux then clearly you haven't been paying attention to this rebuild. Go whine in the corner about not paying top dollar for Fast as well.

Honestly the only FA's that interest me are the bargain bin guys.

Craig Smith, Colin Wilson, Zemgus Giergensons, Johan Larsson, Mattias Janmark, Matt Nieto, Kyle Clifford (his bargain bin-ness can be argued.)

Scored in each of his first two NHL games. What could have been.

I don’t see why Craig Smith would be bargain bin guy. The dude is a lock for 20 goals. I think he’ll get 4-5M per.

I love Hornqvist but he’s almost as old as I am.

Florida is clearly breaking up their locker room. Says a lot.

Mathesons contract is one of the worst in the league. He is signed for six years at almost 5 million. Florida is trying to dump his contract.

One of the worst skaters I've ever seen in the NHL.

Immonen makes Lias look like Eric Heiden.

Immonen and Dawes were two that got away. I think they both could have made it in the NHL given time.

I still haven't seen many better seasons in junior hockey than Nigel Dawes in 2005.

I don't understand the hype around Brendan Lemieux. He's a fun player to watch when he's not playing like an idiot (so, what? 50% of the time at best?) But when it all comes down to it, what's his actual upside at this point? Derek Dorsett? A useful player to have but nothing I'd consider earth shattering.

Weren't people genuinely discussing the need to protect him in the expansion draft a few weeks back? A player the team was rumored to be open to flipping the same day he was traded for?

I like the player, but I definitely wouldn't treat him like this untouchable core piece.
We can always ice the lineup bloggers and chart gurus want--which is a lineup of 12 skill guys with no jam to their game, basically TB before they brought in guys like Goodrow, Maroon, Coleman. lol. People ripping Lemieux are insane. I do wish he'd seek out Avery though.
