why not grab a young fin that is old 23-24 age range in the Lilga league?? why not get someone who can mentor Kakko and who can grow with him. not someone one year and gone. Grandlund is not that good.

but if the Rangers need a center, although not a Finn but a good option if the Flames want to move salary I'd consider Backlund if he was available

Probably because Granlund is at least a solid NHL player and a "young fin that is 23-24 age range in the Liiga league" is likely a terrible NHL player.

Ok 2 trades and some buyouts, signings. Don’t be shy like you lot normally are with the feedback (aka hate, passive aggression, derision, snarkiness):

- Sign Lemmy 1.25, Georgie 1.8, DiG 725k (1 yr)
- Buy out Staal and Hank
- Trade B Smith and Lias to OTT for Mike Reilly
- Trade Strome, ADA, 22OA, Gauthier to CAL for Hanifin and Lindholm (an overpay to get Lindholm)
- Sign Derek Grant 800k and Dylan DeMelo 1 mil both 1 yr

leaves us with 1.15 in cap space and bonuses shouldn’t be an issue with our buy outs dropping 11.5 mil. Exp draft we lose 1 of Howton, Lemmy, Georgie, or Hajek.

Pan Lindholm Kakko
Laf Zibs Buch
Krieder Chytil Krat
Lemmy Grant Howton
DiG

Hanifin Trouba
Lindgren Fox
Reilly DeMelo
Hajek

Igor/Georgie

Granlund is going to be an interesting signing whoever makes it, how much does a team gamble on price/term with him? If I were the Rangers I'd be interested yet with him coming off a 3 year 5.7M cap hit deal, it's kind of tough to figure out what he would be looking for and where the team would be comfortable.

Pittsburgh is the masterclass of rotating wingers for Crosby and Malkin in and out at the right time.

I don't want any part of a player they've decided to move on from.

The problem with Granlund is that he's the only young top 6 center on the market- some team is going to overpay him regardless of his down year and the cap situation.

I wouldn’t lump Lemieux in with the other two. He’s halfway to 25 and has yet to show that he is anything more than a good energy 4th liner. Which is valuable! But the other two (Chytil in particular) still have a chance to develop into (significantly) more.
I don't understand the hype around Brendan Lemieux. He's a fun player to watch when he's not playing like an idiot (so, what? 50% of the time at best?) But when it all comes down to it, what's his actual upside at this point? Derek Dorsett? A useful player to have but nothing I'd consider earth shattering.

Weren't people genuinely discussing the need to protect him in the expansion draft a few weeks back? A player the team was rumored to be open to flipping the same day he was traded for?

I like the player, but I definitely wouldn't treat him like this untouchable core piece.

Granlund could be a very good RW on a 1 year deal for us

Lemieux for Granlund would be solid, even if no other moves are made (which is possible due to other teams not wanting to make big moves)

Kreider Zib Buch
Panarin Strome Granlund
Laf Chytil Kakko
Howden Barron Gauthier

This fanbase is clamoring for the next Avery and any player that comes close to being a pest like that is treated like the second coming of Jesus by some lol

He shouldn't be untouchable, but you kind of answered your own question.

When hes not trying to troll everyone, hes a good player. If we get Derek Dorsett out of him for the next 4-5 years I'm thrilled.

Donskoi came into the NHL as a 23 year old player from Europe. I don't get how they can't get players like this that contribute at the NHL level.

Karlsson from the Sharks also same type of player that teams took a chance on

both would be an upgrade over the 4th line. Rangers should look at the pro teams in Europe for a bargin. I mean Zuccarello was another free agent from Europe.

I do not think you are getting Granlund AND still having Strome/Buch on your roster. Someone has to go.

And if Strome was the one staying, I’d prefer Granlund in the middle. He has been 4 ticks better than Strome on the Faceoff dot, both having taken 3,600 Faceoff Draws. 49% to 45%. Slightly better possession player as well. And although having played about 50 more career games, he has 98 more points, much of that difference being in the assist category. And thats with Granlund really not having played with a true sniper in Minnesota, certainly not of Panarin’s ilk. Granlund has been the better player. I keep referring to Strome too because I think it would be a question of having Granlund v Strome, not Granlund v Buchnevich.

so the team gets softer. no thanks don't people watch the playoffs, guys like Lemieux are important especially with the physicality in the playoffs, not just fighting. one reason Bolts got Maroon Coleman Goodrow.

I think we talked about it earlier, but Nattinen has two points more than Puljujarvi this season in two fewer games, and would be…free? for us to sign. 23, 6'2" C, RHS, drafted 59OA in 2015.

Ok and what about the majority of 23+ year old's from Europe that turn into nothing?

They did the entire time Slats was GM, particularly Scandinavians. MZA was 1 in 1,000,000.

If Wennberg gets bought out by Columbus, do we take a chance on him? He was 25 during the normal buyout period, so I'm assuming the 1/3rd buyout applies (CapFriendly still has it as 1/3rd), which is why they might do it. He just turned 26 yesterday.

I'd consider a flyer on him as a 2/3C back-up plan.

I'm still a little intrigued by Kyle Turris if he gets bought out

Our team might be too ugly if Lundqvist is gone so I would be interested in Wennberg.

I would. I think Wennberg can turn it around on a new team. I think he’s very talented and a good two way player.

We tried with Ville Meskanen and Lindqvist pretty recently, they didn't quite make it. I guess it's true that between those kinds of signings, college free agents, veterans making the minimum and late round draft picks we should be doing better with finding NHL depth players than we are. But even with the structural advantages of being the Rangers and having a big budget, not everyone is going to be MZA, Hayes or Georgiev
