Im blown away that people would think Deangelo has more value than Morgan Reilly.
Keep being blown away because DeAngelo is younger, a right-handed defenseman, and more years of control. Those are significant factors in determining value here.

And as @GoAwayStaal already pointed out, saying Rielly is a Top Pair defenseman is not saying much when its on Toronto. His defensive play leaves a lot to be desired. He would be on the 2nd pair on a lot of other teams OR be on the 1st pair by default. Heck DeAngelo could be on the top pair in Toronto considering what they dont have there.

Pass on Rielly for multiple reasons.

If Buchnevich ends up getting moved I would look really hard at Granlund. Could be a good opportunity to help him boost his value for a new contract while playing with the amount of talent we have up front. He was also used on the PK for some time while he was in Minnesota. Having another Finn for Kakko and Reunanen is a nice bonus as well.
I had Granlund on my laundry list of targets for the offseason. But he was more towards the bottom, but he can only be considered IF we miss out on other viable options such as Lindholm and/or we move salary out the door while opening a top 6 spot. Could even be a short term deal in which he can rebuild his value for another shot at the big contract next offseason or the one after that if its a 2 year deal.

Don’t like Granlund. He might be washed, doesn’t really fit a bottom six role either. Don’t think he hits anything. Would look elsewhere if trying to get a Finn in.

My only argument would be the LD/RD situation changes rapidly.Right now, no one would care he shoots right. But I agree.

Another move.. per Kevin Weekes

PIT trading Hornqvist to FLA for Matheson
Wow. Matheson looked like he had some promise before he signed his deal. Last year he looked like possibly the worst NHL d man. He made some turnovers in that islander series that were just out of this world.

Eh, I'm sure whatever weaknesses Matheson has it'll be covered up by... um... Jack Johnson?

Morgan Reily is not a top pair d-man and look at the amount of names that have scored 60 points over the last 10 years. Now look at how many of them did it at 24.

Tony hasn't scored 60 points and he was only 11 points ahead of a rookie on this team who wasn't getting pp time with our best players, that shows that a lot of what tony accumulated was because of our offense being excellent. Defensively he isn't good, makes some risky plays, loses coverage, things that show up when games get tight. Morgan Reilly is more complete, and shouldn't be in the same conversation as Tony who is gifted offensively but lacks an all around game. Its not close. If you wanna argue that Reilly will want more in his next contract thats fine but these two arent comparable outside of Rangers fans who are staring at the point category.

I love Hornqvist but he’s almost as old as I am.

Florida is clearly breaking up their locker room. Says a lot.

I think it also could just be that they don't plan on keeping one of Hoffman or Dadanov, so Hornqvist replaces one of those salaries + they get rid of Matheson's contract. So, even though they're taking on more cap hit/salary in the deal it may save them money in the long run.

Jim Rutherford seems to forget he let Jacques Martin go. It'll be interesting to see if the Pens can rehabilitate Matheson as a player with Martin there. Could be a real recipe for disaster if Martins' replacement isn't as good at making the sum greater than the parts.

I know people like to shit on Matheson, but I don't think he's awful awful. If he can turn things around a bit that seems like a solid deal for Pittsburgh

I would look hard at Granlund no matter what. If we can buy low on him it’d be a very good gamble.

He has to because he has an eternity left on that deal. But he's a former first rounder still pretty young and looked decent before this recent disaster of a year he had.

On the flip side I like Hornqvist as a fit for Florida. He's such a high volume shooter and an underrated agitator, brings a lot of intensity and immediacy to their attack. He's a Quennvile player too, just thinking of the success guys like Shaw have had with him in Chicago.

They got younger, improved their LD, got some security, and trimmed payroll. Kapanen pushed Hornqvist down.

He didn't score 60 points because the season ended prematurely. Look at where he was trending.

As for Fox, the PP looked a lot worse with him running it than with DeAngelo.

I am not saying that Morgan Reilly is not a good player. I am saying that claiming that Toronto would laugh the offer out of the building is foolish.

why not grab a young fin that is old 23-24 age range in the Lilga league?? why not get someone who can mentor Kakko and who can grow with him. not someone one year and gone. Grandlund is not that good.

but if the Rangers need a center, although not a Finn but a good option if the Flames want to move salary I'd consider Backlund if he was available
