Ironically, the Norris is the only trophy that consistently doesn't do this, and somehow it's the only trophy that gets accused of doing it.

Hockey fans.

Huh? The Selke is the poster child for this

Man I really hope JG remains patient with guys like Chytil, Gauthier and even Lemieux. No need to make crazy trades. Stay the course.
I wouldn’t lump Lemieux in with the other two. He’s halfway to 25 and has yet to show that he is anything more than a good energy 4th liner. Which is valuable! But the other two (Chytil in particular) still have a chance to develop into (significantly) more.

You don't think there's a difference between being on 3 ballots and being on close to half the ballots (based on this year's 5th placer)?

For all of you who are outraged by this proposal, please ask Leafs fans how interested they'd be in this trade.
Yeah, really don’t care what Leafs fans think. Because they are always so reasonable and objective when it comes to their own players vs other teams players.

Using NHL Awards to justify an interest in a player is laughable. The Awards are a joke themselves and get heavily criticized every year. They have been criticized by NHL writers all week on Sirius because the players who win most often do not fully fit the definition of the award. Or at least most of the important ones. Using 4th and 5th place finishes in ONE YEAR of a 6 year career thus far is even more laughable. Rielly stinks defensively and is 2 years from UFA staus. We are not in our window just yet. We are at least a year away. So we are going to trade our 24 year old RHD for a lesser version on the Left side for what is likely One year of real contention. Why? Because how are we going to afford his next contract? His numbers will be inflated here as well while being a mediocre defenseman and then he’ll want a big payday at age 28.

It aint happening. Stop forcing these big moves as if we are one player away from cup contention next season. We need to maximize DeAngelo’s value, if we even move him, for a piece that is signed through the next 3 years minimum. We could still only end up moving Strome this offseason and revisiting the DeAngelo discussion next offseason.

Keeping ADA by not wasting cap space on intangibles would be the right idea.

Rangers going forward having three RD who are putting up 110-150 points per season combined is an advantage they already have without them needing to do anything except find a way to keep them all.

The roster is in need of some PKers, who 5on5 are decent at fore-check and back-checking. Players who work hard, skate hard, and take some pride in doing so. I don't know why that has to come with cap hits which go beyond 1 - 2M per player.

Don't think there will be a need for it.

Is their powerplay set up like NHL powerplays?

He's NOT on point. He moves along the right wall. As we've seen it happened in the NHL he sometimes moves closer to the blue line even crosses over for defensive purposes (to protect the defenseman at the top of the umbrella) or to gain space, speed and stretch out opponent's defensive structure.

I also think the idea that trading for grit "when (a player) is on cheap (a) deal" is very much easier said than done. Those kind of guys don't become available because, if they can play a regular shift, they are especially rare. We're not talking about adding a Haley or picking up a Colton Orr off waivers.
Exactly right. Players that are hard nosed and can play a regular shift are a sought after commodity come play off time.

I have not seen anything to dictate that they are not staying the course. But all 3 of them, need to show something this year. Chytil that he can take steps forward to be a 2C and Guathier and Lemieux that they are valuable to be a part of the future. Gauthier also needs to decide what kind of player he is going to be.

People 'round these parts like to laugh at the idea of a Maroon, deride it at "tuffness". But players like that will always have a spot on a playoff team.
There's been a lot of talk about the need for more North-South players on this team — which is some ways is another, and potentially less polarizing, way to say "tuffness".

Of course. People need to realize that Gorton, JD & Quinn have no interest in icing an all-skill, no grit 4 lines.

Pat Maroon is good and would've liked picking him up last summer. He's available again this year

Completely agreed, we need players in the Dominic Moore, Jed Ortemeyer, Blair Betts molds more than high end talent now. We need solid bottom 6 players, not garbage players like DiGuiseppe. If Fast leaves, we need a minimum of 2 hard nosed vets who know how to backcheck and win face-offs. The top 6 is more or less set.

I think it’s really bad for the Rangers, for whatever that’s worth. No interest in Rielly. If we get a LD it should be a defense-first LD.

I don't get that. Outside of other factors that might make Morgan not desirable, we have a defensively mind LD in Lindgren, prospect of Miller eventually becoming a two-way and this scenario assumes that DeAngelo is moved out. I'd have absolutely no problem with bringing LD who excels on offense.

Honestly if you like ADA I can't see how you'd hate Reilly.

I'd probably take Reilly over DeAngelo but Reilly's contract is an issue and to be honest I can't see any situation where Toronto would want Tony. They're still scarred from the Tyson Barrie experiment lol

We need penalty killers badly.

One thing that doesn't help Zibanejad is playing on the first PP and the first PK. If I'm Quinn, I'd be looking to keep Zibanejad down closer to 19mins a night rather than 22. He's a horse who can handle it, but it's not great for protecting him against injury, and I'm also a believer that his play driving--especially his defense at 5v5--suffer from it.

How much will Matt Nieto be looking for? He's carved a good niche for himself as a pker with great wheels and enough talent to spot into the middle six to spell an injury.
