Why are we all so gung ho about trading Georgiev this offseason? I feel like you have to have a decent backup albeit I know Shesty is the real deal.
Because his value is likely never to be higher (potential starter with RFA years remaining, not gonna get a whole lot of PT next year with Shesterkin in net), he doesn't have a long term future here with Shesty as the clear #1, and because there will be a ton of decent quality veteran goaltenders available to sign as the backup for relatively cheap as UFAs.

He used to be a client. Filthy rich ($4 Billion range) Yes, he has taken a hit but he is also using situation to pick up more real estate. Shrewd businessman and a really nice guy (if you aren't negotiating with him)

Good to hear. I think Houston would be a good NHL market. The Edmonton Oilers almost moved there in the mid-late 1990s (was within hours of happening until the local group came in and bought the team from Peter Pocklington). I don't know if they've ever played hockey in the place the NBA Rockets play (forgot the name of it; maybe the Toyota Center?), but they can put an ice making machine in and tweak the seats to push them back for hockey.

Maybe a silly question but would anyone take Eric Staal back as a piece if Buffalo wanted Strome? Say Staal + BUF 2nd ‘20 + BUF 2nd ‘21 for Strome

1 year stop gap at a reasonable salary. Could be 3C or 2C as needed
right off the bat i would say no BUT those buffalo picks are very high second rounders. I would love to grab a top second round pick somehow in this draft. Not sure if Buffalo would do it tho. They probably like the possible stability and veteran presence Staal could bring.

Houston Oilers? Yuck, that would never work.

But if Hank is gone and Georgie is traded (which I'm sure is not gonna return what many Ranger fans think he will return) who is our backup for next year? What if Shesty goes down for 2-3 weeks? kiss the season goodbye?

See the final point in my original response re: who will be the backup. And if the team can't survive a 2-3 week stretch with a guy like Talbot (to pick a name) in net, then they're not going anywhere anyway.

Trading Georgiev is less about getting a big return and more about the fact that we won't have to pay him. Most teams don't want to pay 3-4 million dollars for a backup, and if NYR end up keeping ADA and Strome he's gonna need to go to fit under the cap.

The arena was built to accommodate hockey. There's already an ice plant in place. They have had a number of pre season and minor league games there.

you go from a plethora of depth to nothing which is why i’m all for Georgiev sticking around for a bit.

Who are the UFA goalie vets you would sign? Keeping in mind salary. Like under 1-5-2 million.
Also I would rather not play Shesty 65-70 plus games a season.
Hey If we get an amazing return for Georgiev obviously that would play a huge part in trading him otherwise if we aren't getting fair to above fair value I would be wary of trading him.

Is the NHL's arbitrator his brother or something?

If Georgiev is traded we will obviously sign a UFA goalie to replace him. We aren't contending next season anyway so I'm not terribly concerned about who our backup goalie will be. That said, if we can't get a decent return for Georgiev I'd keep him.

Is that Libor Hajek quote on the main boards yet? I'm sure we can get a Czech speaker to parse it out word for word. But even through google translate language it looks pretty unambiguous to me
