I'm kind of in between on Martin.

I don't have any problem with him at all and I think there's a tendency to reject him because he fits a certain idea. He actually has very good analytics for a 4th liner and we need 4th liners who are NHL players.

That being said, don't buy into the NBC narrative that the Islanders are carried by their 4th line. Worse yet, don't go thinking that the Islanders are an example to follow. We tried for years to block 45 shots every night and win the Cup 2-1; it's boring and doesn't work.
 
Also, I think the best way to improve your bottom six and forecheck is to start with speed, not necessarily size.

We have size.

The Rangers already have Lemieux. Why would they need Martin? Maybe a gritty RWee who can still play and not just hit like Clifford.

Yes they should care. He will be looking for something like 9 mil per year and long term. They already have some big contracts on that team and in a flat cap situation it's something they need to look at very carefully. I'm not saying it won't help them short term but it's not a no brainer either.

He also got sheltered minutes behind Fox and Trouba. Whats the point? They are similar players. 50 point dmen and poor defensively, how is it not a fair comparison ? If you were a team would you trade your 1st pick or 2c for Deangelo or just sign Barrie?
