jokes about boomer begging him to sign with us aside. the ONLY scenario that i'd be interested is if from some reason martin was willing to sign for under $1 mil to stay in the area. but in that case he'd just stay with the islanders so we are back to no scenarios lol

After calling around, I’m getting the feeling there isn’t as much demand for DeAngelo as we might have thought. Not sure I understand why but he seems to be down on the list of available defensemen. Perceived cost is probably part of the problem but I just don’t think his perception around the league has caught up with his performance.

Had he not been dinged up during the play-in and been more effective, maybe it's a different story? I can't tell how much of it is real or just me, but I feel like it's really important for smaller D and more offensive D to prove their value in a playoff type atmosphere. Without that, it's hard to get full value unless they're young enough where a team is buying on almost pure potential. DeAngelo at this point is like 75% or more of the player he's going to be. Can he add a touch more D to his game? Hopefully... otherwise he'll be seen around the league as a PP specialist and 3rd pair D. I would think the Rangers would want more than the equivalent of that value in a trade. So, it may be that the Rangers keep him. I know he had a very impressive offensive stat sheet this season, but is it enough to get a middle six C or an upgrade at LD? I dunno.

...Or Doug Pitt even.

Martin makes Staal look mobile. Clutterbuck is the engine on that line and I wouldn't even want him.
I would take Clutterbuck. I do agree with Brooks' larger point that the Rangers could use some element of the Islanders, but they need to be really careful with how much they commit to it. Martin is a guy that scared me last time he was a free agent and he scares me even more this time.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if Vancouver is looking to shed cap I’d look at Antoine Roussel. 2 years left on a relatively reasonable deal, especially if Vancouver retains say $500k. He’s more of a 3rd line tweener.

If Vegas is going to try to make serious moves they need cap space. I’d take Reaves off their hands.

Also, Kyle Clifford is a far superior player to Matt Martin at this point in their careers.

I don't disagree and I'll say it like this: I'd rather develop a "Cal Clutterbuck" rather than have to overpay after he's become a buck.

Yeah, but it's a lot harder that way. And making that type a priority in the draft doesn't seem to pay off at a high rate.

As much as everyone is in awe of his offensive abilities he is equally as bad defensively, he's basically a smaller Tyson Barrie so why trade for him when all you have to do is sign Barrie? He has to be better in his own end before he is a star player, i dont see the league seeing him the way most do here.
DeAngelo is taller than him. You’re just a well of misinformation, huh?

The element of the islanders that I would take is their coach. Totz is excellent

I called this one coming. Or at least the speculation to begin. I don’t agree with brooks on quinn. I’m sure he’d play his 4th line if he actually had one. Lemieux Howden Martin would be a very solid one. But there’s no way I’d pay Martin a cent more than he already makes

Rangers shouldn't A) try to bring in Matt Martin, who isn't good and B) spend $2.5M+ on a fourth liner like him.

The Islander's "Best Fourth Line In Hockey" is incredibly overrated and the money can be used more efficiently elsewhere.

Stop lol
They're 4th line is capable of playing some very important minutes and has been an integral part of their success.

Having hockey’s best fourth line is like being the kid who has ALL the 1987 Topps Ken Oberkfells.

I have to disagree.. In fact, most nearly every team is looking to go top heavy right now and while that being the case, having a strong 4th line just exploits that weakness.
It's a brilliant move in my mind.
