I think Kyle Dubas just is not a very good GM other then the Kapanen trade. They did not need Tavares when they already had Matthews. Especially since he didn’t come at any sort of discount to the Leafs. If they can somehow get Pietrangelo they will try because they are lacking that stud defenseman, but again they are too top heavy. That would mean getting rid of Johnsson or Nylander. Lowball them since they wouldn’t have much leverage.

The cap space is more valuable to the Rangers than the players being mentioned.
I hope we keep the ELC players being tossed around in these trade proposals while we figure out what we have.

too many ignore the cap and want to add on stars as if the team doesn’t already have stars.

These aren’t the Dubinsky Rangers searching for Nash. They’re the Panarin Rangers searching for the Dubinsky type within.

With a growing number of premier names rumored to hit the market via UFA and trades, combined with the financial situation many teams find themselves in, I think it puts us in a prime position to find what we really need at good value: playoff ready, bottom six talent.

While many are squeezing their budgets to meet internal caps or to chase Pietro, Hall, Holtby, Lehner, etc we should be focusing on building an entire veteran 4th line for discount prices. We can practically one stop with a team like Vegas if they target Pietro and try to grab talent like Reeves, Stevenson, Roy, Cousins, Carrier.

Cousins is an enigma, who I'm not sure what he brings to the table. He doesn't do anything particularly well, but I'd take any of those others guys you listed. The only guy I don't think would be available in a trade would be William Carrier.

Stevenson would be a great fit here, but he's an RFA & I think the Knights are going to hold on to him. He's like Jesper Fast where he's way more valuable than his stats suggest. He can fill in up & down the lineup, skates like the wind, kills penalties & can chip in offensively.

The guy who probably shakes loose is Nosek, who's a UFA. I've mentioned a few times that he would be a very good addtition to our 4th line. He skates well, forechecks hard, kills penalties & has some decent puck skills. The best part is he won't be expecting a huge pay day. I could see him taking a 2 year deal @ 1.75M AAV.

Why don,t they offer ADA for WN? Cheaper than Pietroangelo

If people are gonna disrespect Fast then just shut the website down.
Uhh, ok:laugh:

I don't think anyone is, but feel free to leave any time.

The only thing that makes me hesitate about letting Fast go is the available PKers. Otherwise, as much as I love the player, I don't have any issue moving on from him.

if this was MLB cap rules, Fast is a must sign. In this league, you have to be careful and can’t screw it up. Meaning, you can’t let him walk, sign a replacement which isn’t as good and then find yourself trading for his replacement. In the end, you spend more. Have to make the right moves b/c the cap is unforgiving.

Dubas should have bought on McDonagh all these years ago. Woulda won multiple cups and been done with it.

After calling around, I’m getting the feeling there isn’t as much demand for DeAngelo as we might have thought. Not sure I understand why but he seems to be down on the list of available defensemen. Perceived cost is probably part of the problem but I just don’t think his perception around the league has caught up with his performance.

so when can we expect him to be moved?

Which is fine. The Rangers don't really need to move him this year unless it's in a deal that improves a different area of the team that needs it. It was always more of a long-term question that needed addressing rather than an immediate one.

Not terribly surprising especially given other rumored names. Sign him for 2 years or 5-6 years, let him do it again, and value should be off the charts.

It makes sense. Like I said yesterday there are other options saturating the market. Pietrangelo and Barrie as FA's. Dumba and Severson as trade targets. Edmonton supposedly open to moving Larsson. Buffalo seems like they've had Miller and Ristolainen on the market for ages.

Rangers loaded up on RHD just in time for the market to shift to a shortage of premium LHD.

I would lean toward the asking price...the rangers (with deangelo) and the wild (with dumba) have little reason to make a trade unless they are getting a great return. both teams are using assets to try to fill a need but they don't need to make a deal...

it makes little sense for teams to jump on those guys at the cost of a trade before you see what happens with UFAs like pietrangelo, krug, barrie, shattenkirk, etc...plus potential buyouts and RFAs not getting qualified due to the flat cap

it doesn't help us in this case but makes all the sense in the world for teams to explore those 'free assets' knowing that they can revisit these trade options after oct 9

As much as everyone is in awe of his offensive abilities he is equally as bad defensively, he's basically a smaller Tyson Barrie so why trade for him when all you have to do is sign Barrie? He has to be better in his own end before he is a star player, i dont see the league seeing him the way most do here.

Petro to Colorado, Johnson to Toronto would be my prediction

I think Colorado lands Pietrangelo without sacrificing anyone who isn’t UFA/RFA status.

You let Wilson, Nieto, Barberio wall, trade RFA Jost and Zadorov for picks at the draft, they already have the cap to sign Pietrangelo. They can run:

Girard - Pietrangelo
Graves - Makar
Bowen - Johnson
Cole

Let Johnson mentor Byram on the bottom pair for a year or so, move him (and Cole) when you need the cap space for Landeskog/Mack. Cole has one year left, Johnson expires same year Mack needs a new contract.
