I was just thinking about clarifying. Prospects who look to be on the cusp might be in the offing, depending. Think Glass out of Vegas.

It depends, honestly. In the 2004 firesale, the only future that amounted to anything at all were Dubinsky (after several trades starting with a 2nd rounder that they originally got for Barnaby) and Korpikoski, who was a bottom 6er. In the last few years, they got DeAngelo, Lindgren, Howden, and Gauthier on the current NHL roster in futures trades (Gauthier came from trading Keane, who we drafted with a pick we got for Nick Holden). We also got Hajek, Miller, and Lundkqvist from futures trades.

ok, good job. Maybe

Hanifin is possible, but the real interest in Calgary for the Rangers is Lindholm.

That's a primary target for them and the guy they apparently really want.

Hanifin could, theoretically, be part of an expanded deal with Calgary, but there is some doubt as to wether that type of deal may be "too big" right now.
I would definitely prefer the Rangers keep it simple. No need to re-invent the wheel.

Do you think something like this for Lindholm could work?
Lindholm
19th pick

for
DeAngelo
L. Andersson
22nd Pick
3rd Round Pick

I think it’s a bit over-complicated. How about ADA for Lindholm. I would rather keep ADA but I can understand why the Rangers might move him. And I think the value is about right.

Does Calgary have another Center ready to step in and fill the void?

as of now, that trade IMO is

Lindholm
19th pick

for

DeAngelo
22nd Pick

is that enough? The below are nothing but question marks and hope. There isn’t any value there until proven IMO.

L. Andersson
3rd Round Pick

that’s how i see it. There is some window dressing around the targets of ADA and Lindholm.

Assuming Lindholm is acquired and Strome is kept, would you go with...

Panarin-Lindholm-Strome

or

Panarin-Strome-Lindholm?

Lindholm had one boom season, not even the most recent. He's about to be 26 and looks like a .66 pts/GP player. Would be a fine 2C but he's not worth ADA straight up let alone the adds.

The adds were to help move up from 22 to 19 in the first round. Only three spots, but might help get us a better Center prospect, so in a sense we'd be trading DeAngelo for Lindholm and a better Center prospect than what we might land at 22.

i’d say center with Strome gone. There has to cheaper be internal promotions.

This draft is thought of as a three-tier draft. The second tier ends in the top-ten. The player we get at 19 or at 22 will not be much of a difference, and is not worth giving up value on ADA to get.

If the Rangers want to move ADA and likely Buch then why not focus on Monahan?

Not sure if Zibby will break the bank with the Rangers in a few years though.

DeAngelo is not a top pair D-Man. He is a second-pair D-Man or third-pair on a deep team. As well as a PPQB. So I think trading a second-pair D-Man for a 2C seems like a pretty fair trade.

The bigger question is what level improvement is Lindholm over Strome. And is he who we want to be our 2C moving forward.

Understood. As @NYSPORTS said, though, I would think it’s just as likely ADA and the 22 could bring back Lindholm and the 19. And Lias right now has such little value it’s wiser to hold him, I think.

It's been pretty obvious the last several years that the criteria some fans use to evaluate whether a player should be in the lineup is different than what the coaches seem to use. In particular, I think that's true about bottom-6 spots. This isn't limited to the Rangers between AV and Quinn. It's all over the league.

The criteria is just different, and simple on-ice performance isn't the only factor. When you get to the 4th line, it might not even be the most important factor. While we usually think of intangibles as being things like leadership, I do think a lot of what decides 3rd and 4th line ice time are intangibles: work ethic, energy, intention, personality, coachability... all of these things weigh just as heavily for lower line spots as performance. Factor in that Howden is still developing, combined with the things we've heard about him, having that leash actually makes a ton of sense.
And not for nothing, it seemed like Kravtsov was sent to Hartford to get top line minutes while Howden got limited, bottom 6, NHL minutes playing where he is ultimately projected to be. I don't think the conversation was ever Howden or Kravtsov.

Sort of a tangent, but based on some recurring complaints from these prospects, there may be an issue with communication between the players and management. They aren't leaving New York with an understanding of what happened and what they are expected to do. Blame it on culture or millennial perspective, but at the end of the day the organization should manage their investments as best they can.

1 for 1 in this case is probably fair (I may be higher on Lindholm than others) or maybe with a slight add coming from Calgary. Lindholm is strong in the areas where Strome absolutely sucks, so hes a substantial enough upgrade from that aspect to justify making the move but I guess it comes down to if you'd rather have DeAngelo+Strome for now vs Lindholm for 4 seasons and what ever you get for Strome?

Except this second-pair D was top-5 in points among D in the league this season.
