Think it's clear he won't be with Vancouver next year, only question is if they qualify him or not. If not I'm curious what he would cost as a UFA.Let's start this thread off right with some Jake Virtanen discussion.

You do what you do anytime you clear a huge chunk of cap. Sign Shattenkirk. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If we want to start it off right we need to start by hounding @KreiderBomb about his Lundqvist retiring post. That might affect things around here.

First team in history to re-sign a player they're still paying on a buyout. It's the kind of innovative ground-breaking GM'ing we need around here.
The CBA only forbids the signing of players bought out using compliance buyouts for one year. There is no restriction on re-signing players on ordinary course buyouts.
I’ve only been saying I’m 95% sure hanks retiring for at least A month now lol
but yes to confirm @KreiderBomb post. I just listened to Kyper’s podcast. He’s hearing it from players that hank is retiring. It’s pretty obvious as to why and I’ve pointed out the reasons at length in the Lundqvist thread
Think there's a one year moratorium, no?Calgary did it with Michael Stone.
Flames (re-)sign Michael Stone, who they bought out last month
This is interesting. Could we buy out Hank then re-sign him for 1 mil? We'd save 2 mil in cap space. He probably doesn't want to be the backup, but if he was amenable to it, it could be the best of both worlds.

Say Hank retires and we move Georgiev. Would anyone be into taking on Fleury With retention as our backup and getting assets from Vegas for it?
I don't do it if we have to buy out Hank.

we’re not moving georgiev
Oh. Duh. Missed the "one month" in the headline.According to that link, it's only for compliance buyouts. I thought it was for all buyouts, but Calgary clearly did it.
so he says that he is hearing that hank won't play for another team and that it is rangers or bust. but it doesn't say anything about how he excites the rangers. he could still force the rangers to buy him out to get his $$ and then retire. nothing said is different than we already knew and I don't think we can jump to the conclusion that he is gonna pull a naslund to help us out.
