I may be in the minority but if Eichel were available for a fair price I add him and figure it out later. That may include trading Zibanejad prior to his next contract which may seem like blasphemy now until you start looking at him like he was a pure UFA with the head injuries and age at time if UFA
Trading 1OA for Eichel only to then be forced to trade Mika seems like horrible asset management. Yes, Eichel is great and better but is the difference Laf? Heck no.

There's always a push to get things done in front of free agency season.
I ask because last year we pulled the trigger on Trouba before the draft, and not even the night of. We’re all kinda starved for a trade and I understand theres a process to this, but I was wondering if it’s the sort of situation where the Rangers are working the phones or if they are in a holding pattern for another few weeks.

I'm not convinced Eichel is better than Zibanejad. You can only go through so many coaches and GMs until you have to look at the players.

There have been trades in the nhl so I’m sure they are working the phones .... 4 teams still playing wouldn’t announce a deal though

the blackhawks won 3 cups in 6 years so not sure i'd use them as an example of what not to do.

the point is we should all be aware of the cap while the Hawks paid such a fortune to Kane and Toews they crippled their team. Do we expect Laf and Kakko to come at a discount or will we just lose them outright?

maybe teams take their foot off the pedal against the lowly Sabres too. This Rangers team is loaded and needs more kids to develop than land yet another huge salary.

The fan psychology with trades is fascinating. They clamor for them yet the initial reaction is just as likely to be aggravation as it is to get you cised and even the ones that do get you cised, that feeling generally wears off after like a game and a half.

It would only be a “horrible” asset management if the Rangers extended Zibanejad at UFS market rate and term just to see him succumb to concussions soon into the deal resulting into a huge at 1C. From Zibanejad‘a perspective it also would be completely fair to get the very top dollars after his extremely discounted current deal. On the other hand the Rangers have excellent depth on the wings even before Lafreniere is here.

that the American way. Why do many approach retirement with 5 cents in the bank. Live for today, get blindsided tomorrow.

Trade a ton of prospects for Eichel and lose Zibby. Keep both then lose a Kakko or Laf. Keep moving out prospects and overpaying only to get blindsided by reality as you can’t figure it out later.

If you could somehow acquire Eichel, yeah it'd be a pretty easy decision to then trade Zibanejad. But I doubt that there's a chance it happens.

Yeah, the satisfaction comes and goes quickly.

Maybe if any of those GMs or coaches actually got him NHL players to play with they'd be good, it's like McDavid's situation, but he doesn't have a Draisaitl to help him :dunno:

The Sabres lineup was not as hopeless as I think you may be making it out to be. Again, you have to ask why these guys keep getting fired.

Maybe. I know teams go pretty hard against the rangers. Its MSG.

so rather than keep prospects and resign Zibby you trade a ton of prospects and then lose Zibby? Really?
I'd be trading assets for Eichel then trading Zibanejad for assets while getting younger and cost controlled at a similar dollar amount to Zibanejad.

Not hard to understand why that would be appealing.

Except there isn't a cap on your stuff

Eichel had like 20 points more than the second leading scorer on Buffalo, a former #2 overall pick in Sam Reinhart, take a look at their roster from the past season, it isn't pretty

Like a video game. Awesome. Trade a player at 30 years old for the same cost as obtaining one south of 25 years
