I recall a couple of Minny fans throwing out their #1, a prospect, and Brodin in 2016 for Stepan and people trashing it. Meanwhile I was licking my chops at the idea of picking up Brodin and McAvoy in one trade.

Oh, for anyone raising an eyebrow at that, I checked the google machine for a receipt: Speculation: - Offseason Thread: Officially Offseason
;)
I didn't see anyone trashing it when I went through 5 or so pages from that link. But, I have also pruned my ignore list well

Maybe not this coming year, but certainly the next ones, we need to bring in veterans that have won cups to lead the core and young players. The leadership and knowledge is an invaluable part of the growing and development of a winning team.
You backfill the bottom six with those guys. Our young guys are going to be our top 6 and top 4 players for a long time.

Kakko, Lafreniere, Chytil, and Kravtsov are your hopeful future up front. Panarin, Zibanejad, and Kreider are your experienced vets up top. Howden and Buchnevich are wild cards. Do they take team friendly deals to be part of the next window?

Fox, Lindgren, Lundkvist, and Miller are your future in the back. The latter two aren't even here yet. Still lots of work to be done. Brodin just extended in Minny. He's not going anywhere. Shame. He would've been perfect for the composition of this team. Trouba is your grizzled vet in the back by the time the window opens again, which depending on who you ask, can be anywhere from a year from now to 2 or 3 years from now.

Brett Howden (21) days to go!

That's a good piece by Vince. I don't really follow him, but read some scattered articles. Are those prospect reports a series with him?
I dont really read him much, but yes he has been doing features on individual prospects.

- Said literally nobody ever. Your first problem is bestowing the dime a dozen 90s enforcer moniker on RR when anyone who actually watches hockey sees how much he impacts the game when he's on the ice. Richards (an undrafted defensive specialist) and Gettinger (a perennial 4A player who will never sniff the bottom-6 again) over Reavo??? Thanks for the laughs man.
Little Carmine! Your dad always spoke highly of me(that’s what Johnny Sac would tell me anyway). Let’s hope you’re as good a boss as your old man:sarcasm:

I like Krebs as a prospect quite a bit. I'm not sure I like him enough to be the centerpiece of a DeAngelo deal though. Earlier in the year I thought Tuch and Krebs for DeAngelo and Georgiev would be interesting for them but that was pre-Lehner and and also prior to Tuch having a strong playoff.

Just have a hard time seeing Gorton dealing a guy who was top-5 in scoring from the blue line for a completely unproven quantity. It also goes against the insight from Edge that the Rangers probably aren't looking to deal roster players for picks and prospects.
I respect your answer. I think the reason this could happen is because it sets up other deals. The key part of any Vegas deal is that they have to move salary. Krebs could be the main course but the add could turn out to be interesting.

The timing of the nhls flat cap is a real advantage for us. The Rangers are sitting on the best prospect system in hockey and in 1 year a lot of cap flexibility. This will provide a ton of leverage. I’m of the opinion that the Rangers hold steadfast for one year, see what they have in lhd prospects and target a specific player or two like Barkov or lindrum next year. I can personally live with watching a borderline playoff team in which the youth are evaluated for one more year.
Couldn’t agree more. Add to that at the end of next season there will be franchises in full out panic mode because of financial concerns. If Dolan, Davidson and Gorton can see the forest through the trees they will be able to set the organization on the right footing to lay the groundwork for a dynasty.

I can absolutely see the logic in a series of deals coming together in the aggregate. I just have a hard time seeing Gorton risking the value of DeAngelo on a single prospect. Like I said, if it was Krebs and a good roster player like Tuch? Definitely listening there. I just can't really piece together that deal in my head aside from the aforementioned Tuch+Krebs package that gets me leaning towards a yes. Reilly Smith could set the table for moving Buchnevich, I guess, but that's cutting into their core forward group.

I suppose it could be that somewhat dreaded "lesser parts but fills holes" kind of deal. Reaves, one of their LD as an upgrade on Staal, and Krebs as the "could make it look great in hindsight" addition. Could see the logic in it but at face value it's far from ideal.

McGuire's exact words: "I believe you will see some teams that will be sold...There are some teams that are having very difficult times getting to bonus payments, let alone keeping their staffs. I'm not trying to doom and gloom this, I'm just trying to speak realistically."

According to the above report this is what is happening know to teams under financial duress. In another years time in will be all out bedlam.

NBCSports analyst Pierre McGuire admitted as much this week during one of his regular morning hits on TSN1200.
“I’m going to caution everybody including Mark Borowiecki’s agent, these are way different times in the National Hockey League, and you’re just starting to see just a little ripple in the water. This is going to be a very different time financially for the league, and for a lot of member clubs in the league. I’m just telling you. The stories haven’t broken yet, but this is going to be a way different time for free agents, be a way different time for established players. You’re going to see some major cost-cutting around the National Hockey League, major, major cost-cutting. There are people writing stories now about this team laying off these people. You’re going to see a lot more. It’s going to trickle down to player’s salaries. This is a very different time in this league. It’s not getting enough exposure right now. I completely understand because of the playoffs. No one really wants to talk about it.
